i've got an 84 f250 thats been sitting in the yard(for quite a few years) i've decided to try to get fixed, nothing appearance wise, just get it road worthy. as far as the pedal issue goes, i disconnected the throttle cable from the carb, and the pedal moves fine. so by process of elimination, something in the carb is stuck. i'm not really a carb guy, and don't know much about them. basically, is there anyway to salvage what i've got without a total rebuild or buying a new one? either of those options these days is getting quite expensive. i know my post is kind of vague, but i'll post pics or give more details at request.

First I would take the hat off to make sure nothing is blocking the butterflys. Then if its clear take the carb off and soak it with some penetrating oil. Most cases you will need to rebuild. Rebuilds are farly easy. All of the jets and ssettings are found by screwing in and remembering the amount of turns. Write them down and set them the same as you rebuild.

i'm thinking i need to rebuild, but i've heard horror stories about people attempting to rebuild carbs in their own garage. i'm somewhat tempted to throw a 4 barrel carb on there. with gas going on $4/gallon, why not burn as much as possible? but seriously, i figured i could pick up a bit of power by going to a 4 barrel. its a 351w with a 4 speed by the way.

Its got a 4 barrel Holley on there now. If you go with a edelbroke you may get better MPG's. They make a 4 to 2 barrel adapters. 2 barrel will give you better mileage at the expense of power. Rebuild is like 40 or so bucks. And its a holley. Holleys are simple as pie

i could be wrong, i'm not betting my life on it, but it looks like a 2 barrel to me. i'm pretty sure there were trucks back then that came with either. and i was joking about the burning gas part. mileage is no concern with this beast. i'm sure at best its gonna be pulling 10-12 mpg. i doubt any carb is going to effect mileage (in a positive way)

crap. Then go with a edelbrok intake and a holley 600. Decent power and really shitty mileage...10 to 12 lol

anything special you have to do when you install a new carb like a holley? or just bolt it up, check all the vacuum and fuel lines, and crank it? never really messed with carbs, and i'm NOT looking to throw away a few hundred dollars over a simple mistake.

most times you just need to adjust the idle and mixture a lill bit to get it fine tuned. If ur able to use a Wideband o2 thatll help in tuning. but if u find someone that knows how thatll be just fine also
