My Pony has a stutter ? Empty My Pony has a stutter ?

Post by Henny Penny Tue Jun 24, 2014 2:58 pm

Okay ,as some of you know my 02 v6 developed a fuel pump issue in December. Due to lack of funds and cut backs at work the repair had to wait till a few weeks ago. The mechanic that did the new install did not drain the tank (yes I did ask why), he stated that there was no sign  of water that I should just add a bottle of gas treatment. I've done what I was told and am now on a fresh tank of fuel which I filled up for the Crabcake Cruise. While on the cruise the car started sputtering when taking off from stop signs and when shifting into 2 gear....this make for a long miserable ride home Sunday. Now as she sits on a haft tank do I top her off with Premiun or add Fuel injector cleaner? Will doing any of that screwup the engine worse?.Or could I have just developed a miss on one of the plugs?
Any insight will be greatly appreciated, please keep in mind I'm by far no mechanic.  Crying or Very sad

spark packs maybe. Fuel is like water in my opinion and once you ran out the old and added better/fresh fuel it should of fixed itself. Maybe a dirty fuel filter although I am sticking to fire/plug and or spark packs. just and old school TF-30 mech.

you need a scan tool that has the ability to look at misfire PIDS and see what cyl is misfiring, or check pending codes and see if the monitor has picked up a specific cyl.

any update Steve? Sorry to hear your troubles.

Fresh fuel should have solved the issue especially after that long of a drive. I would recommend a new fuel filter, and probably a plug change (you are probably due for one anyways) Adding a good quality fuel injector cleaner will not make anything worse, nor a good tank of gas.

You may also want to check for a vacuum leak, disconnected MAF sensor, clogged air filter, dirty throttle body. All can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.

back on the 29th I had a day off so a fresh bottle of "gumout fuel system cleaner" and a haft tank of premium and off I went, Nice short burst to blow the system out along with a long ride.....Yeah that didn't work out so well. Between I 83 and Reisterstown on Butler road the "Service Engine "light comes on, and the sputtering gets worst. Once I'm able to get up Butler Hill into Glydon I slowly cruise home to Riviera Beach ( Thankfully all down hill). Now that all of my 4th of July obligations are over it's time to set up an appointment with "Dr. Bob".
I tried checking the carborator ...but it seems to be missing along with the distrutor.......meaning a lot has  changed since I last worked on a motor.

The Final Chapter.....Plugs and wires were changed a few weeks ago, which did improve the get up and go . After the Catoctin Mt. cruise and a chat with Bob it was time to replace the Coil Pack. Not being a mechanic I was hesitant even with Bob saying "Dumb ass replace it yourself. End of story 15 minutes from the time I took the tools out of my work truck and uncovered the car to turning the key.

"Sometimes you just need to be called a dumb ass to get out and do it."

Now I can sit back and drink the beer that I bought for Bob.

Thanks Bob. My Pony has a stutter ? 268252 My Pony has a stutter ? 10498

good news and you go off easy with the 'dumbass' bit but ya know it is good to fix something and the self esteem is well worth it in my humble opinion.

Thanks I feel the love.  The hesitation of fixing it myself goes back to a long history of doing more damage while trying to do the repair.
