Discovery Channel photoshoot opportunity
Hey guys,
As some of you may know, I'm an automotive photographer based out of Washington DC. I also work for the Discovery Channel. We are starting a new channel currently known as Turbo which will be devoted to automobiles.
Part of each of our channels is having a set of core images which are drawn upon for advertising and promotional purposes. I submitted several images of which they actually chose one. They wanted to have a look of a car show. However, the one chosen has a Cobra replica from an obscure manufacturer that is out of business. The legal team is not happy with this. Since the image is going to be used all over the world, they want to be very careful.
Therefore, I'm looking to recreate the shot this Sunday, January the 11th at our weekiy gathering called the Church of the Holy Donut. Its at the intersection of 198 and old 29, in the parking lot of the Dunken Donuts and the Amish Market in Burtonsville, MD. The Turbo folks were looking for 60's muscle cars. I have a 62 Corvette convertible, a 62 Bubble Top, a 57 Chevy, a 64 and 68 Chevelle and a 67 Mustang GTA covertible coming. I would love to get 60's Mustangs to show up.
This is all weather dependant. Right now the forecast is for cold but clear weather on Sunday morning. That would be perfect for the photoshoot.
Keep in mind that if we can pull this off, it will be used literally, around the world for 1 to 2 years. So it would be a way to immortalize the Holy Donut and your car.
I have no guarantees that they will use the image but I know what they want so that's a big leg up. Email me with any questions: karmakvisser@yahoo.com or kenneth_visser@discovery.com.
Here is the photo they chose. The mini van has been removed and the cars in the background have been moved back. It gives you the idea of what I want to recreate.
thanks
Ken Visser

I'm not trying to be snooty by not including the later Mustangs, its just the channel's determination as to what they wanted in the shot.
Your 66 is welcome. See if you know anybody else with a 60's Mustang to show up.
We are still at the Donut Shop Parking lot. I think the lot owner has had a very difficult time getting financing and getting restaurants to commit to building. Plus he is running into permits issues. The owner sort of cut himself in the short and curlys by kicking the post office out and the dunken donuts.
We will be in the lot until the construction crews put up the gates. I will make an announcement here when that goes down. Meanwhile, don't forget to come out any Sunday that the weather is clear. This past Sunday we had 15 cars or so. The cars get fewer and the lies get bigger. We are there regardless. If its too cold out, the old guys have been meeting at the McDonalds across the street.

I'll be there around 8:30 and looking to setup the shot after 9 some time. Looks like it could be an interesting turnout so everyone come on down. Even if discovery doesn't use the shot, its a good excuse to get yer rides revved up and on the road.

good morning campers
When its 37 degrees out, I have a half a pack of cigarettes, and I'm wearing sunglasses....
I'm leaving to pick up the coffee and donuts and will be at church around 8:30 or so.
I hope to see some of ya'all out there! Any cars are welcomed. I will be concentrating on the older stuff. I'm also putting together a database of owners and their cars. I want to be able to fulfill any requests for Turbo, should they arrive. Come by this morning or send me an email with contact info, full description of car(s), and pictures. Please email to karmakvisser@yahoo.com.
regards
Ken

Re: Discovery Channel photoshoot opportunity
Nice hooking up with you this morning, thx for the coffee and my son loved having the Dounuts.
Hope the pics come out good and are used, you should post up info on that poster/canvas you had there and any other stuff you may offer, nice shots.
Here are a few pics I took, and BTW, I hope your Eagles lose today
Hope to see the motion pics when you get the chance.
I decided to try some dounuts in the parking lot with my 42 year old, son loved the spins but the old girl flooded on me, he got a kick at laughing at his Dad...LOL!

Re: Discovery Channel photoshoot opportunity
I'd like to thank all the guys that came out today. Thanks to ndnboy to bring out the vintage Mustang and his son. Its was a crappy day to have a nice car out on the roads. There was a gorgeous 67 GTO, one of 3 in its color, has never seen a bit of moisture since its original restoration after 80,000 miles. I was really surprised to see it out. There were 2 nice, driver Vettes and a couple of other cars. I had just enough to recreate my original shot. My good friend drove his Superperformance Cobra with no top and no ear muffs quite some distance to make the shoot.
I really appreciate all that made it out. We did the best we could, given the circumstances. Now its up to the Turbo folks to make their decision. Granted, I didn't have very good light to work with so...
We'll do this again some time. I'm very serious about putting together my database on cars. If you want your car included, email me at karmakvisser@yahoo.com. I want to be able to find whatever car the Turbo folks might want for whatever purposes, be it video or still or whatever.
I hope that the Giants choke on that last turnover. The bastids finally made a field goal!
regards
Ken
This is the shoot we wanted to recreate.
Here are 2 samples of what we shot today.

I think the Eagles were the better team today. I don't know if we are better overall. I think there is alot to be said for continuity by playing to get there. The layoff seems to have adverse affects on quite a number of teams this year around.
I don't think the Eagles are good enough to win the Super Bowl. I hope I'm wrong but I think they will do just good enough to bring the coach and McNabb back for 3 year contracts.
However, unless they can find another go to offensive weapon, you can only ride Westbrook so far. They luckily got some production from some others today. Now if we don't shoot ourselves in the foot or thigh, we should be able to beat the Cardinals.
