4 wheel alignment
So my car is at the Dealer and I tell him that I don't think it is tracking right since the rear-end accident....based on my last burn out from party, oh and that other one, and that other one....anyway
He says we can do a four wheel alignment to make sure it is trued up; I say - Go For It.
I check back next day - dealer says "We couldn't do it because the car is too low" ..... the beam that would go accross to the other front wheel is cut off by the Front facia / bumper......
I say Can you put it up on 2x6's - He says we had to just to get it onto the alignment machine.... I say can you put 2x6's to align it - he says no, we would have to take the front bumper off.
Bottom line - I say Go For It; just because of rear-end accident I want to be sure all is well and nothing shifted, since she hit me on the left side of my license area.

Re: 4 wheel alignment
What exactly is 4 wheel alignment on an S197? I can understand if they are making sure all 4 wheels are square, but there are no adjustment points in the rear on our solid axle cars. I think this inspection is called a thrust angle alignment.
Re: 4 wheel alignment
it show if anything is bent. True you cant "align" it but you can check if its true to the car or not

Re: 4 wheel alignment
They did a 4 wheel on my car after CJ pony put the Ford Racing Suspension Pack on. I believe they use it to check the caster camber as well and adjust it accordingly.
Also the Panhard bar, if you're lowered you should have an aftermarket adjustable one anyway, needs to be adjusted to bring the rear back under the car properly

Re: 4 wheel alignment
Right, when you lower a car the rear end may need to be shifted left/right to bring it in line with the front tires. I think the thrust angle question is getting closer to what is checked after an accident to make sure the rear wheels point in the same direction as the front. Here's a nice description I found, and the info on other aspect of alignments is pretty good reading too.

We should start a thread in the technical section where useful information links, categorized, would be available for easy access...

I used a BMR adjustable on mine, vack. Which one are you using, out of curiosity?
Re: 4 wheel alignment
My alignment specs are below:
Before -
right front Camber = -1.5 ( allowable = -1.5 to 0.0 )
Cross Camber = 1.2 ( allowable = -.8 to .8 )
After -
right front Camber = -1.2
Cross Camber = .7
It feels a whole lot better and I do not have to fight it to stay in the ruts in the lane....
When I let go of the wheel it goes stright until it hits a bump....which are almost every 100 feet in Maryland
I plan on getting an adjustable panhard bar soon.
I am happy to have my car back. That is a Good Christmas present to myself.
