Need to make some noise
I think its about that time for me to start making some noise with my stang. Need suggestions, recommendations for exhaust. I would like a good mean sound, but some things, I still like to hear my music, I do like to try to decipher the thoughts in my head, no droning and nothing that would give me a headache lol. My hearing is a bit sensitive when it comes to sounds, so I have no idea which direction to go to with exhaust. I never really looked into it before. Ideally, I would like to do performance along with exhaust, but I don't want to spend too much, as I need to stop spending

Nancy, I have my SLP Loudmouths that I took off when I did my full exhaust swap. You are welcome to them.

Re: Need to make some noise
I like my Bassani X with Corsa Mufflers but I want to get the pypes mid muffler system, in my opinion it is the best sounding exhaust out there. A bassani X with Pypes mid muffler system gives these cars a sick sound.
But I wuold suggest you to first start out by listening to the systems on Youtube, and then find someone who has that system and listen in person.

Re: Need to make some noise
I think the best thing to do is to listen to a few clips on youtube keeping in mind the sound quality is not always the best. Then at car shows, cruises, stop lights and any other mustang gatherings ask folks to let you hear their set up. Never have seen or heard anyone not willing to rev up there stang for you. Then pick what you like.
I personally think Boom Tubes go best with Silver Mustangs....just my 2 cents

Re: Need to make some noise
Nancy, didn't you say you have a set of Flowmasters? I had those and weren't too bad. To me, a low budget decent sounding setup was the Pypes O/R H with the factory mufflers (of course a replacement tip would help the looks a lot!). I ran that setup while I was waiting for a replacement muffler.
Here is a clip of that setup:

Re: Need to make some noise
I have stock exhaust, I never had anything else since it's always been a tough choice for me.
There are times when I enjoy the purr and then when I go on cruises, I'm like wow, this isn't cutting it, I need something beefy.
omg John, I think I watched your sig more than your video but I was listening LOL.

I wouldn't go with the Mac's, I love them, but I'm able to ignore the drone in the car, and man they drone.

+1. I have Magnaflows on my edge and they sound amazing. I know you have an S197 so it shouldnt be much different.

Pypes Violator Axle backs are nice, I have a set in the garage. Only changed them out to Flowmasters because the Pypes didn't sit right in the exhaust cut out.

Re: Need to make some noise
with my v6 I had a mac high flow catted h pipe, stock manifolds, and SLP LMI's. really woke up my car. and I know my buddy ethan has BBK longtubes with mac o/r h pipe with SLP LMI's and his car is insanely loud. Ive never heard SLP's on a GT before though....
with my car i plan on going FLowmaster.
to be honest. i think i would go with longtubes before a catback, especailly with the OBD 2 testing and the cleaner newer engines. the LT's will give you stock exhaust a deeper tone and add a couple HP. your going to want LT's in the long run anyways
being the guy i am, i am very indecisive about things and with the plethora of exhaust options this is why i am working on my engine first :p
theres my $0.02

Re: Need to make some noise
if they make a flowmaster 3 chamber for the 06 , that'd be the way to go, my flowmaster 2 chambers and Mac are loud, expecially between 2200-2700

Re: Need to make some noise
My MACs surely droned with the factory manifolds and O/R X!!!!! Since swapping those out for he LTs and O/R X, there is zero drone with the same MAC mufflers.Big Blue wrote:I wouldn't go with the Mac's, I love them, but I'm able to ignore the drone in the car, and man they drone.
The S197 is completely different due to head design and location of exhaust components... Esp after you eliminate the cats...it gets very raspy...03silvergt wrote:I have Magnaflows on my edge and they sound amazing. I know you have an S197 so it shouldnt be much different.
She is wanting to keep the cost down...at the moment, so I'd say LTs are out. A S197 muffler swap can be done relatively quickly, while LTs cost close to or over $1000 in parts new and you have to swap out midpipe as well. Self install there can be a least a handful of hours and cost $$$ hundreds in labor otherwise.RTW0223 wrote:to be honest. i think i would go with longtubes before a catback, especailly with the OBD 2 testing and the cleaner newer engines. the LT's will give you stock exhaust a deeper tone and add a couple HP. your going to want LT's in the long run anyways

Re: Need to make some noise
Pypes are nice.
SLPs don't drone, but give a good muscle car sound.
MACs sound like sh!t with an O/R, but I don't know what they sound like with stock.
Flowmasters are king!
