I have seen that before, but is always funny!
I have talked to myself/the tv while playing racing games and done similar
He did make a huge rookie mistake and not pay attention to his racing line... Like I learned from riding a motorcycle, look at where you want to go, because if you don't, you'll go right where you are looking. As the Mustang spun off into the grass that was exactly what he was watching and nearly ends up there as well
