Coolant / PS flush, DIY ???
Just got the oil changed/tires rot at 85K, dealership listed I could use a coolant and PS flush, couldnt find anything in manual on the PS other than top off if needed and the coolant calls for a swap at 100K.
Has anyone done either on their S197, can you just drain coolant and refill with 50/50 mix OR do u actually need to flush system? Is there a DIY out there, I guess showing drainage point etc....
PS, with a closed system like that do you need to flush or just refill if needed?
thx

Sorry Man, wasnt on when you posted...
No need to flush coolant system... you can get a hose attachment at an auto parts store but if you're a GREEN type of guy flushing chemicals down a drain isnt the best thing to do.
Also the flush chemicals are for cleaning deposits from cast iron blocks mainly... but yours is aluminum and most of these flush chemicals can cause more issues with the coolant system...
Also most of the techs do not actually flush, they drain and fill...
Not worth it... Unless you have visible contaminants...
Power steering flush... again just a way to get your money really... but you can take the line off the bottom of the reservoir and get 80% of the fluid out.
For the most part, take your finger and dip it in the fluid. Smell it. If it has a very pungent burnt smell then it could be replaced. No flush is needed with that either...
All these things are considered "fluff" items to service writers... kinda like throttle body cleaning...

Transmission flush... totally different story... it uses a machine that pumps through a contained system, and works well...

when in worked in the dealerships they made us write up flushes on most cars. i thought it was a rip off. only flush that made any difference was a trans and brake flush. coolant and p/s i never noticed any change
