My car
The car is going on the dyno in the next half hour to get a baseline pull. That is all!

JJ at Woodbine Motorsports. They checked the timing and it was WAY advanced, installed a bung in the Xpipe for a wideband to check Air/Fuel. Set timing to 2* advanced and ran a baseline. He said the car is running terribly lean, pulled 215hp/255tq at the wheels. I just gave him the OK to create a tune on a chip and install it on the computer so the car will give more fuel to help balance out the A/F. This way his tune can also tell the computer that the car has no smog equipment, cats, etc. to get better power out of it. Should be all finished up tomorrow, he said he may get one pull tonight. Hope to see a decent increase from where it's at right now....

Re: My car
Stock is 10*, he set it at 12* before the base pull. I have a 190lph pump, 75mm MAF calibrated to 24lb injectors, AFPR.

Re: My car
what was FP set at?
With those mods, a tuner really isnt needed, unless there is something wrong. JJ knows his stuff, just wondering why a piggyback was needed...
iron heads like 13-14*, Ive run as high as 16 on an alum head fcammed 302.

Re: My car
That's it, no other mods? If so, imo a tune and dyno is a waste of money. Timing could have been set by you. Why are you running 24's w/ a 75mm mass air on an otherwise stock motor.LXStangFiveOh wrote:Stock is 10*, he set it at 12* before the base pull. Re: My car
FP was about 41# I think
Well adjusting timing didn't fix the problem if it's still very lean.
Yes it's a fairly stock motor.
.030 over
stock heads w/ valve job
E cam
Explorer intake
65mm TB and spacer
Pullies
unequal shorties, O/R xpipe, catback

Re: My car
I felt that it wasn't running right. I pulled the motor, Eldersburg Machine rebuilt it, and a guy names Brian Duffmeyer installed it all. Just seemed like there were some bugs in it. And I'm not a mechanic, so I took it to JJ since he's so close and I hear great things about him.
I will also use the invoice from him to get a waiver for the emissions I have been failing for the last 6 attempts, with converters and without.
So all in all, it'll be peace of mind that the car will be reliable for me and make as much power as it can with what it has.

Re: My car
Before ever taking a car to get a tune, I make sure they are running right, a tune will only try and mask the underlying prob, the above bolded tells me there is something not quite right.......did you ever run a koer test and pull codes?? check for vac leaks?? also, seeing the a/f graph from the dyno pull would help narrow down suspect prob areas, what were the "bugs" you felt it had/ symptoms??? in the future if you need help, I do mustang side work for numerous people and iirc you're close. feel free to pm me or stop by whenever you need assistanceLXStangFiveOh wrote:I felt that it wasn't running right. Re: My car
Well I just got a call from JJ. The computer had a Hypertech chip on it from a previous owner. When I bought the car, it had pullies, CAI, equal shorties, catted xpipe, catback, 3.73s, and 1.6 RR.... So maybe the old chip was messing with what the car has now.
He said it picked up gains throughout the power band and made the most power at 12*. It was set at about 17*
Anyway, the final numbers were 225/266 at the wheels.

Re: My car
holy crap I'm surprised it wasnt popping like crazy...
Decent numbers.
Yeah didnt know it already had a piggyback on it already. I would have just taken that off, and ran it on the stock ecu.
Glad its figured out.

Re: My car
Yea I had no idea it was chipped, glad I had it checked out though. Now he can just retune the chip down the road if I stroke the motor and add boost....

Re: My car
Yep your set for down the road. Although unless your going for over 7-800rw, the stock ecu has handled it well. I know of a couple guys running serious numbers using stock ecu.

Good deal. And that is why you can learn as you go.. Yes, it costs you money but people like JJ are professionals. Sorry about Bernie. It's your car and your money.

Re: My car
Yea I learn as I go along, but when it comes to diagnostics it's just not my bag. I wouldn't have ever found a previously installed chip without taking it to a tuner. I may be new to this group, but I knew Bernie from Metro Area Mustangs when he posted over there and they both had Mustangs. No worries, it's all good. I look forward to meeting some of you guys this Spring
