don't know too much about rifles but you may want to check "Cheaperthandirt" or "gunbroker"

In October 2013 the MD legislature imposed stricter rules on firearms purchases, both handguns and long rifles like the above. I believe that is illegal for sale in MD unless it's labeled an HBAR or "heavy barrel". I think some of the Colt LEs are HBAR, but not this model (someone correct me if I'm wrong). I think the Colt model in question that's legal is the Colt AR-15 Sporter H-BAR.

Also, you can't buy a rifle with a magazine that exceeds 10 rounds (oddly, I THINK you can leave the state, buy one in PA for example, and bring it back in).

That all said, the majority of restrictions are in the 5.56/.223 ammo range. AR-10s though (.308/7.62), I believe are completely legal, despite being a more powerful rifle!!!

Where are you located? I can point you to good local gun stores to ask questions. I actually have two rifles for sale but think they need to be transferred to buyers out of state...I don't think either is legal for resale although it's legal for me to own them since I got them before the ban. Hope this helps.

Juan, I think On Target is close as it's Severn. While this shooting range is focused on side arms, they do rent (or used to rent) rifles in 9mm and 22LR calibers. They are very knowledgeable and could give you some ideas about what to buy and where. Engage Armament in Rockville is good but a bit out of your way. You could call though and ask questions.

state law...not federal and I don't live in Californ-yland........so it's legal where I'm at...and I was more so referring to banned nationwide by every state......which will happen soon enough so get them when and where you can. Smile

The laws are a bit crazy in MD and make little sense. I needed to purchase a new magazine and had forgotten about the 10 round rule here in MD. So I can't buy a 16 round mag because they have been banned for sale but it's perfectly legal for me to drive 45 minutes north or south to by as many as I want in PA or VA and bring them back.

Be sure to ask about Colt HBARs in .223, or any of the AR-10s--you should be good to go. I've tried a Windham Weaponry AR-10 and loved it (I have a pre ban in .223/5.56). I'm trying to get clarity around 9mm ARs with the Maryland State Police (it's not an AR-15 copy, which are banned, because the internal parts are not interchangeable) and it's driving me nuts.
