The Driving Out Cancer Motor Rally - Maryland is a 50-mile police escorted drive starting at the Greene Turtle Sports Bar and Grille in Edgewater, MD and ending at the Tiki Bar in Solomons Island, MD. The purpose of the motor rally is to increase public awareness and raise funds for cancer research, education and social support programs.

The car show takes place at the ending point of the motor rally- the Tiki Bar. Car owners will be given time to clean up their cars for presentation in the show. Once the show opens, cars will be judged by the public in several categories including (but not limited to) best interior, best pain, best in show and more! Awareds will be presented to the winners before the show closes.

Who can participate?

Anyone owning an antique, muscle, custom, exotic car or truck, high-end luxury vehicle, motorcycle or chopper. This year boaters are also invited to participate in a boat show held at the Tiki Bar beginning at 12:30 p.m.

How much does it cost?

A $45* non-refundable registration fee is required for advanced registration ($55 for on-site registration). Because this is a charity event, registrants are asked (but not required) to raise additional funds through donations and sponsorships. Donations can be made by check, cash or money order and submitted during the check-in process on the morning of the event. Donations/Sponsorships can also be made online using Paypal at www.drivingoutcancer.org.

*Due to the recent economic hardship in our area, we are offering and Early Bird special registration rate of $30 to those who register by August 30th.

How can I raise funds?

Be creative! Ask everyone you know for support. Family, friends, neighbors, colleagues and local businesses are often happy to contribute. Previous Driving Out Cancer participatns have had success in asking employers and local businesses to sponsor their participation. Many employers will match their employees' donations as well.

Be sure to let donors know that the Geriatric Oncology Consortium is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and that their donation is tax deductible as a charitable contribution. Receipts will be issued for tax purposes.

When is the motor rally?

The Driving Out Cancer Motor Rally & Car Show is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2009. Check-in and on-site registration will open at 10:00 a.m. We will depart the Greene Turtle parking lot at 11:00 a.m. Please plan to arrive no later than 10:45.

Ending Point: Tiki Bar- 85 Charles Street, Solomons Island, MD 20688

What if it rains?

The rain date for the Driving Out Cancer event is Saturday, October 10, 2009. All times and locations will remain the same. In the event of rain or poor weather, please call the GOC event hotline for information and updates. The hotline can be reached 24 hours per day at (410) 467-3600 extension 222. The recording will be updated as necessary.

If you go to TIKI for the show there is no registration fee. The charity group will be walking around Collecting donations is all. So be generous it is a good cause for people who do need the help. So will see you guys hopefully see some of you guys there.
