Ms Bzlee's carborator is clogged
We put the new head and exhaust mainfold on, adjusted the valves, points and carburator. Brought her home and she bucked and chocked most of the way. She rides fine in 1st gear, rough in 2nd and forget 3rd.
I think the carburator jet is clogged.
I have to get this fixed before I head out for Ocean City Crusin. I bought fuel injector carb cleaner that goes in the gas, but I don't have enough time to see if its going to work, doubtful that this is going to solve my problem.
May have to buy a carb rebuild kit. How involved is this to do? I assume those kits come with instructions.
Open to any suggestions.

Sounds more like a load issue. Pull the plugs and see what they read.
How did you adjust the valves? Any Vaccum leaks? How does it idle?
It works better in first since there is less load on the engine. Whie it doesnt really sound like carb it is possible. I am thinking two things... one is the distributer was put in a tooth off and a hair retarded. Or the valves were adjusted incorrectly and are hanging a valve open. However there are many other things that could cause this.
You can take the plug wire off one at a time at the cap, to see if you are runing on all cyl.

What he said, but also re check the easy stuff, if the points are not adjusted right it could run fine at idle and under a light load, but when you get up in the gears and there's more asked of the motor you have a problem, and like Will said, timing, make sure its timed right, but it dosnt sound like a carb problem
Oh ya, where you been, its good to hear from you again.

I'll take all your suggestions and recheck the settings. I hope this is a simple adjustment issue and I can have it fixed before OC. I would HATE to have to leave her home because I couldn't get her fixed in time.
Re: Ms Bzlee's carborator is clogged
I rebuilt the carb, replaced all the gaskets and cleaned out all the jets. We replaced the spark plugs and it runs great! I had her on the beltway to make sure she could get up to speed without bucking and she did. I think we're all ready to go to OC next week. I'm soo happy!! Thanks for your suggestions. Hope to see you down there! - Stacey

Very Cool, we'll be there, you going to the big MCOM mustang show at Freddy's formerly Castaways?
Re: Ms Bzlee's carborator is clogged
Too many mechanical issues and not enough time. Ms Bzlee won't be going to OC this year. I'm still going, but she is not road worthy for such a long trip. Stalls out when hot (vapor lock, I think) and the clutch is having issues. I'm bumbed but I have other cars I can take. I'll be looking for you as I drive by Castaways.
