Exhaust? Empty Exhaust?

Post by rgoddard Thu Sep 08, 2011 6:48 pm

My 08 GT sits now with slp loudmouth axle backs. I have the chance to get some FRPP Stingers. I would like to change the mid pipe in the future and I have heard with the SLP the sound gets worse. Please help me decide! I know the stingers aren't cheap but are they worth it?

Both Laura and I have the FRPP stingers on our cars, with off road midpipes and longtube headers. The cars are pretty wicked sounding.

So you think I should just go for it?

Laura started with SLPs, tried Macs, and ended up with the FRPPs. Works for us...

Do you think H or X Pipe would be a better fit for these mufflers? I have never done a mid pipe swap. Is this hard to do? This is my first mustang. My other cars didn't have this type of choice.

Personally, the sound of an h-pipe is deeper and more aggressive, especially on the S197s. We both went from xpipes to hpipes.

You can do this yourself on jackstands, but it's tight. If you go with a catless midpipe, your tune will need updated through an aftermarket handheld.

Thank you. With catless midpipe what do you do when Emissions roll around? Just bolt the stock pipe back up? How would you even go about that with LTs?

well, we're about to find out. In the past (as of two years ago), a tune could turn off the rear o2 sensors in a catless system and still allow the emission monitor values to be set, so you'd pass the OBDII test. However, I tried my red car two weeks ago and failed. I think it's because the battery was dead over the past year (it's been garaged) and I only drove it for a few miles. it apparently takes a while for the emission values to be recorded. I'm going to try to take it out a few more times during dry weather and take it back for the test. Another way is to get MIL eliminators that pretend to be O2 sensors.

Very Good to know. If you could let me know how that turns out for you so I can plan accordingly? Good Luck!

Definitely go with FRPP mufflers. These are the Borla ones, just re-stamped. I had it before switching to the side exhaust and I LOVED it.
As for mid-pipe, it is your choice.

If you care, I'm running:
Kooks LT headers
Kooks catted H
Cervinis (Pypes Violators) side exhaust

05RedDevil you car looks sweet! I have always like the side exhaust. I am sure it sounds great too. I see you have had some nice paint work done. I have been trying to find a good place for some future work. Know of a good place?

I get my car painted at IGS in Crofton. I say get because it has been painted and touched up more than once due to mods, a friend driving in the rain as well as my first drift experience.
Anyway, I went there because Will (05_TT) suggested it. They do great work.

I've also had good experience with pre-painted parts in the past. My sideview mirror covers and my Roush spoiler both shipped painted and match flawlessly so that can be an option too.

Yeah I got my head light splitters and window scoops and spoiler pre painted they did a good job. I am thinking I need a new hood and I would like to do something with the rear of the car.

Cervinis and Steeda have high quality hoods. FYI, Keep an eye on the sale threads on SVTPerformance and S197Forum. They tend to be pretty active and you can get good deals
