New Hood or repaint??? Empty New Hood or repaint???

Post by ndnboy Fri May 17, 2013 12:55 pm

So the six year aluminum V6 hood is starting to rust along the front lip. Swung by IGS today and they said it would be a couple hundred to sand/epoxy/paint, no guarantee that it wont happen again but should hold for awhile.

OR.........a new hood? What are your thoughts on these, do you know of another that would look good on the sixxer, or where to find used? Does the GT hood fit the sixxer? If so i can look for a Redfire one online...

thanks.

The hood will not stop corroding, it is a VERY common problem on the 05-09 cars. I don't see many come through the shop here without it. I would recommend you not waste your money on a repair.

If you can't stand it being there, a replacement is the way to go. The V6 and the GT share the same OEM hood. There are two OEM hoods, one with a scoop and one without.

You're definitely much better off trying to find a used OEM hood or getting an aftermarket one.

OEM without scoop 7R3Z16612B $1,366.25
OEM with scoop 7R3Z16612A $1,590.32 - Doesn't include scoop

That's OEM retail price, no paint included. Hope this helps! Out of the 3 photos you posted, the hood in the first 2 photos looks the same. I like that style a LOT more than the 3rd pic.

I like # 1, I never did like # 3 it looks like a pig nose, as far as a different one, obviously I like the California Dream hood.

Juan,
How much longer do you plan to keep the car? That will be a huge factor in a cheaper repair or a more costly investment to aftermarket upgrade.
Sorry I did not keep my stock hood.
