I dont plan to run but if I come out I will bring my helmet for someone to borrow.

Does the helmet just have to meet DOT specs or something more?

not sure of the exact spec's but the one I have passed inspection last season.

Looks like running 13 or faster requires a driveshaft loop to retain the driveshaft if it were to shear anywhere. Luckily it's only $45 and an easy bolt on. And the helmet must just be DOT or Snell approved, unless the track itself wants a better rated one.

When I ran there for drag day, they never checked anything. Never looked at the helmet, and I didn't have a d/s loop either. No real tech to speak of. Not sure if things have changed since.

Would any of you guys recommend that I go try on helmets before buying? Or a good way to measure my head? Do certain brands run big or small? Kind of lost here and don't want to buy something that may be too big or too small.

Mason-Dixon goes by the rules. If your car is faster then 13.9 you will need a helmet with the snell rating of 2005 or better

If your car runs faster then the times that further safety equipment is required, they will make you run the 1/8 mile only or tell you you can't bust out of the time in the 1/4. If you violate the rules, they will shut you down.

I'll have to bring the II, it should turn about a minute and a 1/2

Does this include a closed track day? I realize normal racing would be held to those standards. On track rental days they never bothered w/ much of anything.

Def go try them on. Different brands have different sizing and inner shapes. You wanna cheap helmet, check out Cycle Gear in Laurel on Rt 1. also a store in Alexandria.
