When it rains it pours I guess...
Just a b!tch session, Rant...
So this year/month has been a PITA for me... It jsut been one thing after another, with unexpected bills and such... Well this weekend I hooked the F-350 PSD up to my car trailor and threw the quad's on. We were headed up to Upstate NY, a place called Pulaski NY, for some trail riding and salmon fishing. Weekend went great until yesterday morning, when we were ready to head out...
6am we head uot to the diner to get some breakfast. 7:30am we get back to camp. As soon as I pull in next to the RV, a huge puff of smoke comes out of the engine bay... I open the hood, and there is oil all over the engine bay. Its pouring out of the overflow reservoir. I have heard of this problem with PSD's but it usually happens at 60k or never happens... It was puking oil all over the place... I knew it was the oil cooler or the EGR cooler... I called up the dealership, and I was quoted 3900 to repair it and it would be a week before I could get the truck back. I had to be at work the next day(Today) so that wasnt going to work. I thought about flying back, but the quads and trailor would be stuck up in NY. I then got the bright idea of trading the truck in on a new one... Then I came to my senses when they said they would only give me 6k for my truck since they had to do work on it... Its a scam because they had my same exact truck on the lot, except different color, selling for 27k, plus mine had less miles... I just hate 50k impulse buys... So I decided to find another way...
I start calling every truck rental place around, looking for a pickup to tow the trailor with the truck on it. Not a single trucking company rents tow vehicals... Uhaul and all the others say no more than 6k lbs can be towed... A tow company wouldnt even touch it for less than 3k, since it was a 480 mile tow. After about 3 hours of calling and drinking at the bar... the guys came up with this ingenious plan... There was a 26' box truck at a truck rental place(name excluded for incrimination ) We went over and talked to the guy to see if we can take some measurements to see if a huge armoire would fit through the door... I hope you're following so far...
We take the measurements and I measure the truck... Theoretically... It will fit... So I purchase the box truck for one way to Maryland... We back the box truck up to a hill, and I put my car ramps(had them for the quads) on the hill up the the back of the truck. I start the F-350 up and back it in... It fit with a slight rub on the rear door seal. I had exactly 3 inches on each side with the mirrors folded in, and about 5" front and back of the truck. I thankfully had my car ratchet straps in the truck, so I sinched it down so it wouldnt rock around. I hooked the tailor to the back of the box truck and loaded the quads on. With the straps hanging out the back we couldnt close the door all the way, but thankfully you couldnt make out what was inside... If a police officer or one of those transportation police saw what was in the back... I think I would have been in deep doodoo...
We left at 5pm and I pulled up to my house at 3am this morning... What a nerve racking drive. While the box truck had a hitch and plug for my trailor lights I couldnt set the brakes because the box truck didnt have a controller... Therefore it wanted to push around corners. Add a 35'+ box truck, and a 20'+ trailor, and you have pretty much a semi truck length...
Anyway even though I have a decent amout of cost in parts ahead of me, I only paid 470 for the truck rental and everything is back in MD without worry... Tricky part now is getting the truck out

Thanks,
I appreciate that. Just need to call my ford parts hookup and see what kind of deal I can get on the Oil Cooler and EGT cooler... The sucky thing is that everything is far under the cab... Ford take the cab off the body to work on them... I am thinking I will try leaving the cab on first, and see how hard it is...

Re: When it rains it pours I guess...
It was kinda tricky... since I didnt have a loading dock in front of my house . I just finished building a deck on the back of my house and I had 6, 10', 2"x12". I put my aluminum ramps down first and the 2x12's on top. Had a friend direct me out. The hardest part of the entire thing was getting in and out of the truck. at 6'3" 240 its a tad bit difficult to climb over the truck and squeeze in through the window.

I like them to say yes when asked instead of running away screaming like they always do.
