Put My Transmission in! Empty Put My Transmission in!

Post by KingMucha Sun Jan 25, 2009 7:38 pm

As some of you may know i didn't have reverse for a while and then my whole transmission went up a few weeks ago. i was hesitant at first when i thought about doing the tranny myself but i bought the Hanes manual and read through the steps. It didn't look like a big deal so i got started. i hit a few snags but i have a little bit of patients. Anyway i finished it tonight. I tell you what it wasn't easy lifting it up into the bell housing but i have some good friends that help me when i need them. Also i put in a pro 5.0 short shifter with the white hurst ball shifter to compliment the new tranny and match the reverse glow gauges i got for Christmas. Now i just have to get the passenger exhaust manifold off and the neew long tubes on and ill put up the rest of the exhaust and ill bee back in business. LOL I wasn't planning on keeping in the garage for the winter but S**T happens. Anyway thing seem to be looking up. Also question for those who have done a tranny swap. i didn't have the pump to get the transmission fluid in to plug on the side of the transmission so it poured it into where the shifter bolts in. i think this works too because i remember seeing transmission fluid in there when i took it off. Let me know if i "Fu***D up BIG TIME". lol please say it alright.

If all of the fluid you put in it stays in it then you should be fine. Yes you did see fluid in that space, just check it every so often. I remember the fluid gauge being behind the pass. side front tire. Which I still think is a dumb idea. So long as a seal somewhere doesn't split, then all is well.

When I put in my MGW shifter, I went ahead and changed the tranny fluid. I poured it in through the sifter hole and it was fine. It was actually recommended to me to do it that way. Much easier than pumping it in from under the car. Of course, my tranny is different.

That's awesome. I'd always been around cars, but went all corporate. I've been taking a home study course on auto mechanics, and while it's pretty in-depth, I'm sure that there's no way I'm learning what you are.

i kinda know alot through my friends and my uncle but i would really like to learn the things hands on. My only concern is that a v6 mustang is almost as easy as it gets when it comes to working on cars. i've seen some of my friends with like WRX's and EVO's and i don't have a clue whats what what what.

most vehicle knowledge crosses over and all. good luck, it all comes with experience.do as much as possible yourself, instead of watching other ppl.
