Transmission Empty Transmission

I was just curious what the real difference is between a close ration and a wide ratio manual transmission is for our cars. I was looking at American Powertrain to see what they have offered for the 05 and newer mustangs and came upon this option. I might be just too out of it to understand what I've been reading

wide ratio = run up the gears longer before shifting......close ratio is shorter time between shifts.
