Thoughts...
I was recently offered a job out in Houston, Texas. I would be doing pretty much the same thing for the same amount of money. I have no worries about losing my current position and the new place has a pretty solid foundation. I know 2 people out in Dallas.

Re: Thoughts...
Apparently it's really cheap out there...like 48% less than DC. And I don't think you get hit with state tax in your paychecks.

Re: Thoughts...
Living large would be nice! Mod parts prolly still cost the same out there
The two people I know out there are Adrienne's brother and his wife. A and I haven't talked much about it since I got all the info about it this afternoon. Not sure how easy it would be for her to find a new job out there. That's something we would have to look into. Just trying to get some thoughts so I don't look over anything Some of you all might have been in a similar situation...

Re: Thoughts...
Would suck for us, however do whatever is best for your family.
One thing to think about is that if you are safe in your position, with this economy, SOMETIMES, its better to stick with whats working.
However on the other hand, nothing is super safe...
I was offered a position in Germany a couple months ago. I would be making almost twice what I make now. However being the new guy on the block if anything bad happened to the company... I might be the first on the chopping block..

We would definitely miss you
Housing is much cheaper there. It's awesome that the money is about the same! Plus there wouldn't be a need for "winter" tires.

Re: Thoughts...
Wow...that's a big one Bronson. You have to do what's best for you and your family. If you think packing up and moving out is the right choice, then go for it. If you think it's going to improve your life any then go for it. Only you know what's right - taking that chance and making a life changing choice is very hard. You would be missed if you left that's for sure. However....unitedstangs out in TX I'm sure would love to have you! I'm sure they'd have a stang for you to spoon with

Re: Thoughts...
Thats a big decision, bro....best of luck. I would definitely weigh all of the pros and cons before doing anything.
Are they going to help with relocation?
How stable is the new company financially?
Anyone in talks to buy them out?
Benefits comparison
Room for advancement comparison
Crime Rate of area you'd be living
Chances of natural disasters compared to this area
And of course family and how they feel about it too...

Re: Thoughts...
Thanks for all the input yall! It is very much appreciated!!! Of course everyone would be missed but I would definitely stay on MPSF!
There is definitely alot to think about, that's for sure. That is why I came here to get your perspective. I don't want to rush into it so hearing other opinions definitely helps keep me thinking. I will do some more research on the company, etc, as yall suggested and see what I can come up with.
This company, Winstead PC, is a lawfirm that I do side work for. They have an office in every major Tx city and a DC office. They call me when they need someone onsite at the DC office, currently. If I join them, I would be the lead IT guy at their Houston office. It's very similar to what I do now, just on a bigger scale, which is what is drawing me to it.
My current lawfirm is closely tied to AIG. If AIG sinks, I don't think my lawfirm could swim. Papers say the US can't afford to let AIG sink so who knows?!?
Sucks that I would have to start by the end of April. not alot of time to move, etc!

Re: Thoughts...
I'm gonna cry....
FOR JOY!!!! GTFO!!!! man thats gonna suck... but hey at least I will have a place to crash when I go ATV riding in texas!!!
So far the only downside to this is for us...
You are doing the right thing. Talk it over with A, and make sure everyone is on the same page.
Then patiently make the descision.

Re: Thoughts...
I'm pretty much in the middle. Not sure if I really want to go out there and start over. Lots of good and lots of bad in my book so far. Just gotta work through it all and see if it's something I want to do. About 6 years ago, I had the opportunity to go to Europe and play baseball for a year. I passed that up b/c I was just getting settled into a new job and new area (Dc area). I had about a week to make a decision. Every so often, I wonder what if...

Re: Thoughts...
Totally understand your position. I was asked to go to Germany in January, I would be making almost twice due to the exchange rate.
However my circumstances has me staying around a little while longer.
The thing that sucks is the timing for you. Not much time to think it over. Whatever you do, make the descision and stick with it. Dont worry about the "what ifs", just concern yourself with achieving your goal.
If both you and A want to persue a career step. Make it a goal and strie to complete it. If your goal is to move, than persue that as well. If you are looking for advancement in your career only, I can tell you that this area is the hotspot as you know. If you want to stay in this area, and further your career, I have a few influential friends in the business that can help.
I try to break things down into smaller pieces to see what I am trying to accomplish, and then make a goal(s) to accomplish them.
Whatever you decide, stick with it.

Re: Thoughts...
Again, thanks for all the great advice and comments. I will be talking to the parents this weekend and get their take on it, too.
One of the real sucky things is that I get to see my nephew a handful of times a year. If I went to TX, he'd be in high school before I knew it. I guess I'd have to make my own or something crazy like that!
If I did move out there, I think I would paint my house burgundy and gold to represent!!!
