Pro 5.0 shifter install
I installed the Pro 5.0 shifter in my 08 mustang this afternoon. I have found that 5th and reverse are a little hard to get into. 1-4 are as smooth as butter. Has anyone had this problem or can someone tell me how to correct it. Feels alot better now though

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
Well, I have no experience w/ the newer stangs, but a Pro 50 would not have been my choice of shifter. I have found then to be very "notchy" in the past.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
Just going off of everything that i have read this was the best one for the newer mustangs and highly advised by JPC Racing.

Well, g/l w/ that. Ask JPC why it has a problem in 5th and reverse. Did it before?

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
Hey Man left a few messages for you today.
As for the issue with 5th and reverse. There should have been two bronze bushings in your kit. The bronze bushing goes on the transmission side. You will notice that the shifter hits the center console. Its because its cocked from the incorrect bushing being installed.
Very common problem with our remote shifters. Just replace the bushing with the other one provided in the install kit.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
No I never pulled the two bushings off and reversed them. The directions stated to put the larger bushing on the drivers side and the smaller bushing on the pass side. That is what I did. The 1-4 are smoot but 5th and revers feel like i have to push them in.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
I am not sure. I have been on the internet all night ready several articles and it seems that the 08 has this issue. I have found several guys stating the same thing. The biggest problem is my car sits so low with the ground effects it takes for ever to get i up in the air to try and slide under. I hate to go through all of that if I dont have a good answer and will have to resort back to the stock shifter. Do you think I should do this. I hate not knowing anything about these newer mustangs. should have stuck with the fox body much easier.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
Well, Will seems to know quite a bit about these newer models, I would give it a shot. You only have a lil bit of time to lose if it doesn't work.
Yeah, the nice thing about the fox is old technology. It's simple. But that comes w/ a price also. Less hp starting out among other things. If I could afford one, I would def buy a new/newer one.
If it were me, I'd try it. If it doesn't work, then I would contact JPC and see what they say.
Oh, BTW, what are ppl from other forums saying is the fix? Or they don't/haven't found one yet?

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
No one has a posting for a fix. It sucks doing things on the weekend no tech support from the manufactures. I bought the lower profile jack problem is I have to ride the front tires on wood and jack the front up first. Then it makes it hard to get the jack to pump in the rear. Cant win for losing. I told the wife the other day I want a lift installed. Tired of hurting my back. She said you are lucky you got the car and to bite her. I am going to eat my breakfast then go out and get it back up on stands and see what I can try to figure out. I emailed Will to see if he was available to swing by and maybe give me some advice.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
I had similar issues with a Hurst shifter. When the shifter first went in soon after the car's purchase, it was a dream. As suspension and driveline changes occured over time, the shifter grew progressively notchy and finally nearly impossible to get into first and reverse (not fifth). I'd swap the stocker back in, it worked fine. Swap the Hurst back in, it got problematic. Turns out the directions were wrong about a bushing and it needed to be reversed--interesting, huh? I ended up with an MGW shifter eventually because I hated Hurst by then, and the MGW has had NO problems. From your mod list I don't see drastic suspension or chassis changes, nor a driveshaft change, so I think the bushing thing might be an issue OR I wonder if one of the mounting bolts has loosened up a bit? The one that hooks to the tranny actually came loose on me as I didn't use loctite.
As for getting under the car, I have to drive my car on shallow ramps, then slide my LOW PROFILE jack underneath! Just the way it is man. I can swap out the old and put in a new shifter in 30 minutes I got so good at it. Just get under there man and bust some knuckles!
Regarding the wife, just set up joint accounts for bills and savings, and private accounts for fun. Overtime you learn how to scrape by and save for those mods...

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
Should I try to reverse the bushings on the shifter arm? I am hoping will can stop by. I have the car up in the air front only this time. Looks like i should be able to slide under the car. I might try the bushing reverse first and if that dont work I guess back to the stock one. Just hate taking a loss because you will never get the buying price. Waiting for the car to cool off and then under I go.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
BJ,
I am riding my quad right now. I can be over your place around 1. Then its off to Nates in Woodbridge to solve his exhaust leak.
I have a low profile jack. Let me know if I need to stop by the house and bring it.
We will get it figured out. Its just a little bit of adjusting. Also the two bolts in the rear grommet can be moved slightly also. These remote shifters are a PITA at times, plus they are not very precise.

Re: Pro 5.0 shifter install
Alright you guys were all right. Will is the man! taken care of in less than a half hour. A little adjustment and switching the bushings around the opposite way from the instructions worked perfectly. When I figure out how to post pics I will. We will be tackling the rear brakes and gauges in the near future.

You will need to make a T off the oil cooler with a couple brass fittings. Its all NPT so you can go to Napa or a parts store and get a t with a 90 then you will have 2 ports facing outwards where you can attach the stock sending unit(for the ECU to work) and the second port for your Cobalt oil pressure guage
