New Knob!
Well, John(Boss281) and I finally got our schedules to line up, and with the weather being perfect, we installed the Hurst shifter! Took us about 2 hours. He talked me through it and I am proud to say that I did most of the work. There were some minor things he had to take over since he did it a time or 2 before me and he knew the little tricks of the trade.
It was blast getting under the car and working on something myself. What a rewarding feeling!! And I know it was done right. Thanks John for walking me through it and allowing me to use your tools and all. I owe ya big time!!
It is a complete difference from the stock shifter. I love it!! I had to get used to the stiffness and the rough feeling, but it is worth it! I love how i can just throw it into gear ever so quickly!! Can't wait to get it to the track and see if i can get some better times!!

Re: New Knob!
I never thought of laying on a canvas, even though I got plenty in my attic. Has to be better then laying on a cold garage floor.

Re: New Knob!
Guys, Laura did it ALL. I got underneath, pointed out what had to be done, and watched it happen. Getting the stock shifter out is a tricky little thing, and Laura twisted it out from the top in record time--no need to drop the drive shaft.
Getting the Hurst in took a bit longer, but overall it went in fine. The worst part was the dust boot of all things. I thought the console was going to have to come out to allow more room for fingers, but eventually the damn thing popped on.
You done good lady, and a professional job to boot. Let me know when you get those lower control arms.

Well I can't dunk and to me, dunks are hard. Layups, on the other hand, are rather easy...just like picking out the innuendo provided by this thread!

Re: New Knob!
Good god, please don't tell these folks if I ever fix your rear end, or slip out the driveshaft...I won't be able to sleep nights...
Re: New Knob!
Awesome job! I love the feeling of DIY! Shifter looks great in there!
I've never driven one with the Hurst installed...YET, but I have sat in the seat and "worked it" while the car was off. Very positive feel to the gear selections and I also love the sound it makes while doing so!!!!!
Lower control arms are a breeze! For me, the toughest part was unhooking and rehooking the parking brake cables which isn't even that tricky!
P.S.
"How do I get this open?"
"You have to slide your hand further up the shaft!"

Then he would need therapy for sureBoss281 wrote: Good god, please don't tell these folks if I ever fix your rear end, or slip out the driveshaft...I won't be able to sleep nights...

You just COULDN'T let it go, could you John!!!
All in good fun though. Laura was awesome, and proved her "wrenchworthiness"...

I love wrenching on my car In fact, I gotta get back underneath there and figure out where the exhaust rattle is coming from. Since it's such a nice day and the ass end will be up in the air already, I'll probably swap out the Steeda phb for the BMR phb as well!
I'd love to pitch in on L's suspension work (I've been bugging her for months about it anyways) and then maybe hit up a red, white and blue Stang photo session as well

Re: New Knob!
Well, if we're adding folks to the wrenching sessions, I'm starting to feel a BBQ afterwards!
I'll let Laura chime in, but she took a long look at her stance yesterday. A more modest drop (a la Steeda Sport springs, maybe an 1.25") may be in order, but I also think after hooking a bit at the track with her new drag tire setup, I think wheel hop is going to need to be addressed.
Zach and Nate bought me a BMR pan hard bar for xmas--I was touched!
Driving over to a buddies house to get my rear swaybar bracket cut off (Zach took the damn sawzall to work) this morning--need to do that to fit the 15" Bogarts...
