Rear brakes/rotos needed.....
Stealership tells me I am in need of rear brakes. Pads I can install, figured I would order Hawks (seem to be the pop version).
What do I do about the rotors, they said they will need to be machined down, if I take the rotors off and take to a shop will that be worth the $$ savings or just take the car into the shop?? Any local shops u guys know that will take the walk ins??

You can have rotors machined at the auto shop at almost any base. I know Ft. Meade will do it for a ridiculously low fee. With the kind of driving you do on that car, there should be no reason why new pads and refinished rotors won't be a perfect fit

+1 to new pads and refinished rotors (as long as they aren't warped)!
Have your front brakes been changed already? If not, It's odd the back ones need replacing first as the fronts do about 70% of the braking.

Re: Rear brakes/rotos needed.....
it must be something with these cars. My rear brakes needed to be replaced before the fronts too although the fronts should be doing most of the work.
Juan....When I had mine done I was caught between a rock and a hard place and had to have the dealer replace my rear brakes. almost $400. It makes me mad to even think about it.

Re: Rear brakes/rotos needed.....
When I changed mine a few months ago, the backs were completely gone (down to the rivets and digging into the rotors), but the fronts looked they were just past halfway, but I attributed that to all the burnouts I've done over the past three years and 85K miles...guess that may not be all...

Juan, I still have your brake kit at my house and the last time I called the dealership they wanted $30 to turn the rotors, might've been a piece not sure. Did you actually look at the pads yourself? What brought you to this conclusion of needing new brakes?

Re: Rear brakes/rotos needed.....
Hey if you just need rotors and pads. I have the take offs from my 08 GT with about 500 miles on them. I was trying to get 200 for the calipers, rotors and pads with hoses. Make me an offer and this could help you. I also have the front set up as welll. I have it all boxed up and bubble wrapped. I installed oversized wilwood kits on my 08. Actually Will installled the rear ones

Re: Rear brakes/rotos needed.....
You could just get new pads, but taking your rotors in to be turned would tell you if they were warped at all. It would suck to do all that just to find out there was an issue with your rotors and take it all back apart...

First of all, my stock wheels were 17 x 8 so clearance for a swap would not be an issue.
Secondly, of course you can change pads without changing rotors. The other way around is not recommended though
