Re: CENTURY FORD
Would agree however they did not even follow there own rules when they judged. Think all shows should be participant judged or hell even spectator judged.

Yeah, I think it needs to be very clearly stated that it's participant vote judged vs. MCA (or "MCA-like" judging). There's nothing wrong with MCA judging as long as you know that up front, and you STICK TO IT--BJs comment about the trunk open/closed was dead on. I kept mine closed specifically because I didn't want it judged. Anything MCA-like should also use certified/trained judges too. Personally, I'd never enter a MCA-like event because I do NOT keep my car in tip top condition. It's a race car first, cruise car second, and beyond that it's kept clean but NOT pristine. But if it's participant judged, most folks will understand the work behind the machine, and heck, I might get surprised one day with some shelf candy.
All in all, as mentioned, the best part of the show is meeting up with like minded individuals, shooting the shit, and bitching about the heat. Since next weekend will be another steamy day, I'm torn between sweating it out on the 1/4 mile indexes and hoping for a cash purse, or hanging out at Bob Bell...
Re: CENTURY FORD
I don't mind the judging very much, although droptop, you seem to be a peoples choice car, lots of mods on that GT for sure, congrats on the best interior and paint award. I was sad that not one fox made it in the top10 at the century show, but I go to see other peoples cars, not win trophies.

Re: CENTURY FORD
I learned this weekend that if you are not "in" with the "in-crowd", then you might as well not even show your car. I was pretty upset for BJ and Sandy this past Saturday. The amount of effort(time and money) you guys put into your car, both before the show and DURING, there was NO reason you two shouldn't at least got one of the "Top 10", or whatever it was. Hell, there were quite a few cars there that should have gotten something, if not "Honorable Mention". The KR and the Shebly Cobra definitely deserved their win, and SO did you guys(Sandy and BJ). I found it very dissappointing.
Spectator judging, like Carlisle, is how it should be. That way their is unbiased judgement. PERIOD. Especially with those events that are club sponsored.
I'm with John. We are mostly there to bullshit with good people and meet new friends. Hell, getting 3rd in Carlisle shocked the hell out of me. I'm not there to win, I'm there to hang. I just wish it was more fair. $20 wasted IMO.

Re: CENTURY FORD
I would like to explain here.......
I don't know what happened in the judging. I met with the judges in the back and went over the numbers with them. When the totals came up the cars were just numbers at that point. That's why they called car numbers and not names. I personally couldn't see why droptop didn't get at least in the top 10. That's wrong and I didn't know who's car was going to win untill the judges came out. I emphasized that I didn't want any one body style or club members favored. Other than that it was up to the judges. Century was my first show as president and it was a learning experience for me. In past years we have had problems with "people's choice" because it was favoring only the newset body style. I was trying to avoid that but in doing so had other problems. I have learned from this and we are doing something different at the Ruby Tuesday show in July. That show will be people's choice-top 15- and 5 officers' picks to fill in where the people's choice didn't acknowledge.
As for the rules on the back of the window cards.........
Those cards were given to us by the MCA to be used for this MCA regional show because we were being covered under their insurance. The cars were not judged to the strict MCA judging standards printed on the back of those cards. I am sorry for any confusion on that part. We will make sure to better communicate judging with the participants at future shows.
Thanks to all of you who came out and hope to see you at Ruby Tuesday's in Clarksville July 10th.

Re: CENTURY FORD
Bob, communicating the expectations about judging is the first step towards more uniform practices. That is a really good idea and will go a long way towards minimizing the grumbling following a show. As long as you know the standards for being judged, you can work towards the standards.
That being said, I have my own personal feelings why MCA judging is NOT the right set of tools for many (not all) local car shows, but that's for another discussion...

Re: CENTURY FORD
Will, it IS a lot of drama, and over the last decade or so I've been stumped on why shows need to be so difficult when it comes to judging. I've been in and out as officers in various clubs, and found there is often (but not always) a cadre of "in crowd" that wants things judged a certain way, which tends to skew things in certain directions. There is NO universal objective approach. Everyone just needs to know a head of time exactly how things are to be judged, and the judges need to stick to the rules. It should be easy but often ends up a massive cluster f***.
Anyhow, I only "SHOW" when the "GO" is hampered by weather. I sure don't want to race next weekend while it's in the 90s, so a show might be a less exhausting adventure...
At Century, I think the judges actually did quite well given the judging rules and constraints. But those rules and constraints were poorly communicated to the participants ahead of time. THAT was the problem, not the judging, in my opinion...

Re: CENTURY FORD
MARKLOMBARD, I saw your Factory Five AC Cobra Sunday at Killmons and was definitely drooling! That is one sweet looking AND sounding ride! I one day plan on building their Daytona Coupe
Hey, BJ...you post up your pic and I'll post up mine
That is the main reason I have no interest in participating in the larger car shows! My car is a 106K mile, daily driver and has scratches, paint chips, scuffs and "sand blasted" windshield from all the interstate miles. I just enjoy having a nice car and having it on display for others to see and don't care if I win anything or not. Having said that, I was totally taken by surprise when I won a Top 20 Peoples Choice trophy at the Killmons show! I was #50 to register and I know there were many more after me, so it wasn't like there was only a field of 30 cars. I saw dozens of cars that were nicer than mine, IMO.Droptop306 wrote:Starting to find that alot of these shows are however love the company and laughs. Re: CENTURY FORD
I'm not baffled at all. I'm actually shocked that Droptop wins as much as he does. Every Mustang forum I'm on people like to bash Lambo doors, body kits, and 20 inch rims on Mustangs. The people who consider themselves "Mustang purist" never want to stand out from the crowd they just want to fit in. I think he's feeling the backlash of having a beautiful flashy Mustang. In my opinion his car is done just right. A tasteful amount of "bling" but not over the top. That's what I hate about Carlisle. You can walk down every isle and basically see the same car over and over again just different colors. Then when you see Droptop you're like finally someone with some creativity (and cash). Then you get to a show like Century, being judged be Mustang enthusiast and they'll call it "Ricer". It is what it is.

Re: CENTURY FORD
Thanks for the compliment. I have learned alot this season about alot of things ie, people, shows, rules, forums and clubs. Has really opened my eyes and will hold my comments to myself and just enjoy the fun times laughing with those that enjoy our company. Sorry that working hard and having goals puts me on top. Every mustang I have seen in any magazine "featured" has had a flashy over the top to them. Guess that is what i am shooting for. Dont worry it will have a time slip just to prove it can still hang with any car on the street by next year. Look forward to many more shows and new people.

Re: CENTURY FORD
My 2 cents...I go to shows to see the diverse line up of sharp looking unique cars, see friends, meet new people and talk cars. I don't understand the infatuation with the trophies. I have no interest in a cheap piece of plastic to prove my cars worth. If you invest the time, energy and money into your ride, people will appreciate it and you should be able to take pride in your car without a trophy. Just my random thoughts for the day.
ps. I may be a little biased as my car has never won a trophy and I don't expect to win one anytime soon. Oh, I did win one at an event when most of the cars left due to rain and there were leftover trophies...LOL!

Loved your foxbody! It has a nice clean unique look to it, but nothing too over the top. For the record, if I we're judging, you would have had an award.
