So I know some of you have replaced the sub speakers in you doors, what I need to know is, can I use single VC 4 ohm subs, cause I know what ones I want, just need to know if they will work with the stock amps, I've just about blown the stockers all to hell by now, I replaced the door speakers and will do the rears soon, the sub in the trunk isn't a problem as the 500 didn't have rear subs, so thats all after market, and works just fine.

I cant remember right off the top but the stock shaker subs in the doors are some weird OHM value. If you use to much or two little you can blow the amps up.

I have no idea what aftermarket subs you can run off the factory amps...

These are the subs I have in mine. Of course they are deep mount and you need to mod inside the door panel a bit to make them fit, BUT they sound incredible!

I am not sure either. I have another set of factory 500 subs though. I eliminated my door subs when I installed to 10" subs in the rear this winter. i just went with a FOCAL full range set up in the front. Still working on getting the accoustics worked out though

Hey BJ, id you replace the door panels, and if so, do you still have the originals, I'm working on getting rid of that damn tan interior of mine, and I'm going with Black/Charcoal, but I need door panel because there is to much traffic on the doors for paint, it will rub off to easy.

Kicker and Shelby started to make a door sub replacement, search for "Shelby Kicker replacement subwoofer". I replaced my 4-5x7's with Kicker upgrades and it made a big differance.

Ed, this is the reply from my Crutchfield buddy:

The answer is yes, but with a qualifier. Yes it can be done, but since the factory amp isn't pushing a large amount of power (around 50-75W RMS per speaker, if I remember correctly) the choice in replacement speakers makes all the difference. I would recommend a low power sub that is also efficient like the JBL GTO804. He'll have to come up with some kind of a grille, though.

The ideal situation is to add an amp to power the door subs for best results, then the subwoofer choices really open up.

I actually used my originals. I made brackets and kept mine looking as if they were stock. I just removed the sub woofer and installed my mid and crossover in the whole. Then I replaced the original cover back over the top. Really cant tell that I did it. I just need someone to set the acoustics with this damn high end stereo. has way to many features for me. I am so confuseddddd

BJ does it have the calibration setup? some high ends come with a mic on a wire that you set in the different positions and it tunes itself

You could add a spacer between the door and sub so you don't have to cut the inside of the door and still use the factory grill cover

And OK BJ, just thought I'd ask, if anyone hears of some black door panels or hears someone say, I hate this black interior, I wish it was tan, let me know.
