Gears..........
So I had the car on the lift today, fixing an annoying creek from the rear springs and I noticed my diff. said "3.31". It's time for an upgrade!! 3.73 would be better, all the way out to 4.10 would the best. Anybody put new gears in???? Have to upgrade the front strut mounts too.
One a better note, I got pulled over today in D.C. Smoked license plate cover on the front, only a warning. Whatever!!!

Re: Gears..........
If staying N/A, I'd go 4.10s. Oh wait...I did go 4.10s! I've had them in since March '07 (50K miles ago) and have never had an issue with them! If this wasn't my daily driver, I'd step up to 4.56s!!!!! BTW, my car is auto.

Supercharger = 3:55 - 4:10, Superchargers have a NA torque curve, and HP since it runs directly off the engine.
NA - 3:55 - 4.10

I was thinking the 3.73, I would put the 4.10 if I was pulling stumps from the lawn!!

Re: Gears..........
I love it! Running Bamachips 93 race tune takes some time getting used to the throttle response and VERY easy tire spin from a dead stop...esp on wet roads with a cop beside you at a red light! Dropping back down to the 93 torque tune is no problem as it has slightly less throttle response. 4.10s make the car very exciting to drive compared to stock with very few performance mods done(gears/CAI/OR pipe)! I avg at least 20 mpg with mixed "spirited" driving and have gotten as much as 25 mpg highway.Big Mike226 wrote:how do you like 410 with auto

Re: Gears..........
I went with 3.73's only because the grand plan is to Supercharge her when she's paid off, (3 years). So I didn't want to pay for another gear install. The 3.73 is a big difference over the stock 3.31. You will drop e/t's if you run at a track, you will excell noticibaly faster. RPM's will be higher all around at various speeds and Milage will suffer some. The only reason I did not go with the 4.10's was everyone I talked to with an s197 Mustang and a supercharger said that with the 4.10 and a supercharger two things happen. #1 first gear is non exsistant or you blow through it so fast it's an immediate shift. #2 you run out of gears by the 1/4 mile trap. But if you're thinking of just staying N/A. Then the 4.10 will give you a very nice boost in performance. Oh and make sure you get the laser cut gears from Ford Racing, spend the extra cash it will save you some @$$ ache later.

Re: Gears..........
I was quoted $1300 for 3.73, bearings, fluid and all the other little stuff to include an SCT tuner. JCP...
$1300, I could put headers/x pipe on for that. Maybe even cams..

Re: Gears..........
He installed mine nearly two years ago. From the time it left the floor until the time it touched back down was about 45 minutes! Not a single issue nearly 50K miles later! $389 installed is a steal as I paid $525! Gears installed AND tuner <$800!!!!!pikuoff wrote:^^^Chris at Excessive can install gears with his eyes closed.

Re: Gears..........
i put 3.73 in and couldn't be happier.with the s/c it gets you up into the power band much faster.was the first thing i did to my car and besides the s/c was the single most noticable improvement.i put on x pipe shorty headers underdrive pully and cold air intake with costom tune (all steeda) and the gears were the most noticable.i still have my 3.31 and the left over shims if you're really interested tt_05_stang.but untill i get some new tires i have to walk it out of 1st,2nd,and to a lesser extent 3rd
