Censorship and Club Direction

CENSORSHIP is has slowly begun to go out of hand. WTF. :swear:

some of us know what i mean and where i come from. it occurs on too many levels and too many cases, some are justifid and others are not. ---on this forum

This needs to be brought up at the next formal meeting, or a special meeting with admins first. Chalk it up to successful growth of the club, but with increased numbers come increased problems. We just need to agree on how to handle those "problems".

I see this as an opportunity personally...

I agree with John. It needs to be discussed, either by the admins or the club as a whole. That way we can post a definate course of action.

There definetly has to be some middle ground reached... and since this club was founded on, listening to its members(as a whole) we need to make that decision together. Everyone will not be totally satisfied, that means that everyone will need to compromise...

I agree John...admins need to discuss what they feel is right with the club members and see what the members have to say...again like John said, it should be in person at a meeting. That way the subject at hand will be discussed with out hijackers!!!

What it sounds like is that we may have to formalize our club, you all know I am against that, but it may be something thats going to have to happen, we have grown, and this has brought on new, I'm going to us the word, Opportunity's.
At one point we had a lot more members registered on the forum, but at this point we have a lot more actual active members, and with growth comes change, like it or not.
I stand by my actions the past couple of days, this is the first time that I ever felt that something had to be done, and done quickly, some of you know that if I thought something that you posted maybe should not have been posted, I sent you a PM explaining what I thought, and left up to you whether to pull the post or not, editing or pulling post goes against my beliefs totally.
So thats my position, lets talk about it, Maybe I'm wrong.

".....I deleted your post ...." this is whatr was said to me.......regardless next meeting/outing we need to seriously sit down and discuss this issue, its getting old...and its not just one individual or time or one person being affected, i shall make that clear. i admit i see my views and how i like things and my preferences, and iknow we all see things on different levels and some get more aggitated than others, but please lets not let S@%# slip by.

i suggest this thread be adjusted and changed to what tiopics or issues(as many as can be suggested by members, whethers mods agree or not) so that we may bring them up at the next meeting.

No, I agree, no one ever speaks up about changes or that sort of thing that they would like to see happen, so we just keep going along, please let us know what needs to be looked at.

But I will ask that you please not read any angry tones into my PM's and Posts, its easy to read something in a different way then it was meant, I guess I made a mistake, for that I am sorry.

well I like to think im pretty pc on here (except when talking to laura and we all she deserves it ) but I would like the club to get some sponsers like nvmc has if we could get them and not have to put up with all the crap they do over what they can or cannot post because a sponser doesnt like it. And I think it might make a good topic for discussion at this meeting you guys want to have.

I would even go as far to offer to speak to potential supporters about becoming a sponser (after talking to ed and the restof the club to see what he likes/wants and doesnt) if noone else has the time. I say this because some of their guys are pretty cool -25% off parts and labor at kipkillmons ford, excessive club buys etc. And I think this would help grow the club even larger because Ive gotten at least 12 new members to sign up with nvmc thru just those supporters. People you meet at carwashes/work etc arent gonna remember the name of your club to look it up when they get home unless it really benefits them like those offers obviously do.

While I'm a fairly new member, I guess that even though I don't know specifics of this matter, I can draw a conclusion or two.

It seems to me that this particular club was founded on the idea of complete freedom and lack of censorship. While that is a great idea, and well maintained in a personal atmosphere, the fact of the matter is that if you are going to have a public forum, a certain decorum is expected of members. I see mention of sponsorships here in this thread. In order to obtain corporate sponsorship, certain guidelines must be followed, as most companies would not be willing to sponsor something (read: the club) that is racist, pornographic, or incendiary in any other way. Sponsors have a bigger picture to look at. If other consumers were to discover that a certain company was to sponsor a club with what might be viewed as questionable practices, this might endanger the standing of said company.

While the idea of complete freedom is absolutely great in theory, it is just that - an idea. Not everyone is of the same moral fiber, sense of humor, etc., and therefore, certain phrases, threads, pictures, and so on may entertain one while offending the other. While it might suck to have to "watch what you say" policy while on public forums, it can indeed prove to be beneficial in the long term. Maybe the appropriate action would be to cut up while in person, but to be a little more diplomatic while online.

In essence, folks, if we want to be taken seriously, we have to act like it. At least sometimes.

after reading everyone's thoughts/concerns/ideas, i am on everyone's side. i am an easy-going peson, so whatever decision is made, i am fine with it. it seems some people are taking things way too seriously/personal. IMO! in some cases it is justifiable, but from my understanding this is a club of FUN, gatherings, cruises, tech talk, etc. we do like to have our fun that's for sure, but if some us are getting out of hand, then let us know........and suck it up like an adult and move on!

Ed, i commend you for sticking up for what's right and for this club!! you 'da MAN!!! love you all!!

yea after reading bethelism's post too i have to say i wasnt thinking about the supporters/sponsers views and she has a good point probably better to not pursue it (just keep using the eother guys discounts lol).

I agree, I think this is the biggest Prob at times, just chill and dont make an issue of a non-issue....JMO:)

This is all good input, and its being put forth in a calm manner, I don't see any heated discussions, only constructive conversation.
We have grown a lot in the past year, and we need to figure out where we go from hear.

It’s good that we sit down and discuss this as a club/group.

I for one am against too much change, and firmly against too many rules. We have been here a year as a club, and being just the way we are, we have brought in some of the nicest, chilled out people around. I for one, think that we need to keep that atmosphere. The core group of members, know how to have fun responsibly. I also am a firm believer in letting things be as in life. If I don’t like something in life, I either deal with it, or I choose to look the other way. If someone doesn’t like a post, or picture, or some content someone posted, as long as there is nothing malicious about it, what is it really hurting you? Are we not all adults? Can we not make our own decisions on what we let ourselves view, or do you need rules to help you out?

Secondly I know the point of kids viewing the site. I have been here for over a year, and have not seen anyone log in under the age of 16. I don’t think it’s our job to police what kid’s view, that’s their parent’s job.

Thirdly I know there was some mention of site sponsors, or club sponsors. Personally once clubs/sites get too wrapped up in sponsors, it ends up being way too political. It takes everything what this club was founded for, and we then have to live by their rules.

Lastly, I know there has been discussion on hijacked threads. It’s inevitable. There isn’t one single car forum that I am on that the topic is swayed. However… There are some guidelines that I follow when moderating other car forums. It is the THREAD OWNERS responsibility to keep things on topic. They can do this by posting either more information on the thread subject, or politely ask the member(s) to make their own thread. Oh and if you post in the lounge… it’s a free fall.
