larger brakes on a 95 vert, i recently saw a set of mach 1 wheels i want to get and put on my 95, how hard is it to up size the brakes? i don't want to jump to 17 in wheels and start going through brakes every 5000 miles?

Honestly, I don't think you need to waste your money upgrading the brakes. The ones on there should be adequite for 17" wheels. I ran them on my fox w/o any problems.

coworker has 17s on his 95 5.0 coupe and has stock brakes, but uses track grade pads and rotors for AutoX, and he drives it everyday, drives and brakes smooth....no pulsation....granted he drives like my pa or shall i say juan in his ol' red heavy mustang with a slushbox.........hahahaha

do you guys think it would be smart for me to get a set of takeoff GT front brakes and get a set of GT slotted rotors when i do my brakes?

Would that make my wheels fit differently or would i have to have someone grind those down as well?

The wheels rubbed my calipers on the front the backs where perfect. i just looked up that the gt has a 12.4" front rotor where the V6 has an 11.5" rotor i dont know if that changes the caliper or not.

Yes, the caliper will be larger to fit the bigger rotor.

The issue is the offset not the height of the rim. Thats why you had issues.

Usually larger brakes are not needed until you get in the 20" range. However its all on what you want your car to do. If you plan to auto cross, and stop on a dime, larger brakes are "better". However for a daily driver the stock brakes will work perfectly, up to about 19". Larger than that you will notice you will go through brake pads failry quick and add about 10 feet to your stopping distance. 17" rims do not carry much more rotational weight, so larger brakes are not needed.

Rule of thumb is 20" rims, an upgrade of the brakes is a necessity.

Thanks Will. But then why would the 18" premium GT rims rub my V6 calipers?

First sentence Smile

Because the offset of your rims are different that a gt rim. The offset is the measurement between the wheel hub surface to the centerlnie of the wheel. Hence the meaning "Offset". The GT wheels have less offset, pulling the spokes in closer to the caliper. The GT caliper design is more compact on the outside of the caliper. The V6 design has more material hanging on the outside of the caliper.

Hope this pic helps describe what I am talknig about.
