Exhaust rattle Empty Exhaust rattle

Post by DarkNightV6 Sat Mar 14, 2009 11:03 pm

Ok so i was driving today and hit a bump in the road. Then a few minutes later i start to notice a slight rattle coming from my exhaust. When i give it a little gas it doesnt rattle, and when it idles there is a very faint rattle. When im in reverse its really loud. I looked underneathh and nothing is hanging or looks broke or out of place. What could it be?

as you describe it, it sounds like the torquing over of the motor, in reverse, causes the noise. I'd look for something near the driveshaft or the transmission that only makes contact when the engine torques over to the right.

Alex, what do you have for an exhaust system? Do you still have cats on it?

Yea my dad had someone do my exhaust. Its a custom built kit. I wish he would have listened to me and just got a kit and had someone put it on.

Got it fixed. It was a small brace between the pipes to stiffen them and it cracked near the weld. I had it welded together so it should be fine until i find a full kit

When its time to do the kit, we'll have to measure what they left of the original Y pipe to see if there's enough to hook up the Pypes X pipe adapter, to it, its hard to say what they did when they made that custom weld up.

well I would have to look at them and see if we can save them, but my guess is if you reuse them, they will have to be re welded on the new system, but lets look at them fist

Doesn't it cost less to Just cut the SLPs and weld them on again to the new exhaust? Just wondering...
