T5 on my '68 Empty T5 on my '68

Ok as most know my C4 took a S@%# and to rebuild it its going to cost about 1000 w/ a new stall.

I would really love to put a T-5 in the car but all this research is making my head hurt.

So I have a J code 302 which stock had 230 HP and 310 TQ so Im looking a T5s and some say like torque rating 233 some say 300...does that mean if i bought one with 300 TQ rating Id tear it apart?

also if I buy all the parts needed is this install something I can do myself cause im transmission stupid but id prefer to not pay a shop

You should be ok with a T5 out of fox. My T5 lasted 3 seasons of drag racing and daily driver duty making 350hp 385tq and i power shifted it every run.

As far as putting it in do the research and if you have all the parts ready (clutch pedal assmbly and cables ect) and with a lift it should'nt be more than an all day job.

The T-5 will hold fine in your car.

Bellhousing will bolt right up, you will have to see if the tunnel will need to be trimmed or where the shifter will come through. Nuetral saftey switch can be looped or you can fab one up. Finding a 3 pedal assembly would be your first thing to find.

i found pretty much everything but the trans...

idk if i wanna buy new, rebuilt, or used (and rebuild it myself)

I need to decide on flywheel and clutch then I need shifter (know which one i want), speedo gear, pedal, and cable assembly

whatcha need to know???, I recently sold my 66 with t-5 conversion in it, getting rid of the t-10 4 speed and going t-5 was the best mod I ever did to that car:)

there are a lot of options you can go with this, mine was already a stick car so I opted for the cheaper route , retaining my stock Z bar and stock clutch pedal set up , I used the fox body bellhousing with a mod to it = drill two holes for the block to support clutch fork and I used a 300 ft lbs t-5(either will work for you, I run a 347 with no2 on a stock t-5 and yet to blow it, it's all in the launch:)......anyway I bought a conversion kit with new crossmember from cj pony parts, came with new length driveshaft, and since I retained my stock z-bar set up = no need for a clutch cable, anyway I also purchased a stock looking 66 shifter handle for the t-5 and for the flywheel since your motor is a 28 oz 302 I bought a fidanza aluminum flywheel for a fox body and king cobra clutch, the good thing about this flywheel is it comes with the 50 oz or 28 oz removable weight for either balance motor, and it reved and pulled hard, by no means was my 302 in the 66 stock, it ran on street tires 13.3 @ 104:).....any more questions ask away:)

my plan is to find a t-5 (hardest part atm) im on a 2 grand budget my plan was to buy a king cobra clutch as well...dont know what to look for as far as flywheel...

as for clutch pedal from what ive read the easiest way to do it is use a stock assembly...i need to find one at a decent price and i have also read that a cable set up tends to burn up but only other option i know of is to go hydraulic...

as for shifter i plan to go with a hurst Razz

How much did you spend roughly? (ill probly spend more cause i currently have a auto)
Where did you find you T-5?
Is it something I can do by myself easily with some help and with the motor in?

motor can stay in the car, mine was, I recommend the stock pedal and z-bar set up, but to use such you gotta have a tapped hole in the left ear of the block for the pivot ball for the z-bar set up...if you have an early model block it should be there, I think I had close to 1300.00 in it all, found a used rebuilt t-5 on ebay in PA for 200.00 , conversion kit and misc stuff from cj pony parts 650.00, new KC clutch bought off same guy I got the t-5 from for 30 bucks, and a fidanza aluminum flywheel for 280.00.....and I can't think of the other misc parts I got, anyway, you can find alot of the stock stuff like clutch pedals on ebay, tons out there I believe.......for me the swap was cake since this is What I do for a living, but depending on your mech knowledge, it's not a hard deal.......as far as flywheel , if you have pre 82 302 you'll need a 28 oz 10.5 flywheel to use a Kc clutch

I have a 1968 "J" Code 302 so from what your saying i should be fine for the z-bar set up?

Clutch/Brake Pedal Assm.

Speedo Gear
Either a Cable or Z-Bar Assm. (Which Im having issues finding either)
Transmission (Of course) w/ Bellhousing
Shifter
Crossmember (idk if I can reuse my c4 one)
