93 octane tune?
ok i have been hearing alot about 93 octane tune. my question is, what is it? do i have to get my car tuned to the use of 93 octane fuel to work better? the reason i am asking is that i have read on americanmuscle.com that it bases its horsepower gains on the 93 octane tune. can some one please help me, im not very car literate.

Re: 93 octane tune?
When you buy a tuner such as a SCT X3 or the Diablosport predator, they can tune for the different octane levels to get the most out of it. Like mine, i have a 87 tune but i have a 93 race and 93 torque tune from bamachips and you can most definately tell the difference in all 3 granted the 93 tunes are similar but you can tell which tune is in the car.
Re: 93 octane tune?

jdm performance, bamachips, brenspeed. i think there are a few others. but you need a tuner, most sell the tuners as well.
Re: 93 octane tune?
ive had my car tuned at 3 different place "in person" and then i ordered a tune from bamachips.com (the race tune 93) and its better than all 3 and only cost me 50bucks

Re: 93 octane tune?
The 93 octane tune allows more spark and fuel to be used resulting in more power. Doug from Bamachips says that there is about 2-3 hp difference between the grades. The biggest difference is the 93 race tune has more aggressive throttle response over the 93 torque tune. You should be able to feel the difference between each grade even though it's just a couple of hp. I run 93 race all the time except for winter driving. I drop it back down to 87 as to make it less prone to excessive tire spin

Re: 93 octane tune?
so if you get a 93 octane tune, you can only use 93 grade fuel?

Re: 93 octane tune?
While you have the 93 tune on your car, you need to run that octane fuel. If you don't want to run 93 (when gas skyrockets again), just put the stock tune back on and run regular gas.

Re: 93 octane tune?
I run 93 all the time. I put my 87 tune on like for a day but didn't like it and went back to 93. Just make sure your car is using the 93 before you put the tune on (run the last 87 tank near empty, fill up with 93 and run that for a half tank or more and fill back up with 93 and install the tune). Running 87 on a car tuned for 93 can lead to detonation in the motor and other bad things.
