I went and looked at a car last night. The only problem that was evident with the car was a rod knock. The car hasnt been drivin for a while, Its just been sitting around and only started. Ive i do get the car im able to throw it in my garage and hopefully pull the oil pan without too much trouble and replace the worn out rod bearings. I was wondering what You all would recommend.

So far thats the only major issue. Needs a new battery. Has new clutch and the drive train had a full flush not that long ago. The turbo was also replaced a newer turbo. It started right up with not problems other than the rod knock

Why did they start it if they knew it had a rod knock? Just to do more damage?

Ar you going to pull the engine and rebuild it yourself? It will get pricey if you dont.

600 just to pull the engine, and put it back in.
rebuild cost just labor will be 1000
then parts...

Or you can just pull the pan and replace bearings, and not find the real issue. Plan on them going out again.

I was plannin on pulling the pan and replacing the bearings. They guy said he didnt know what was wrong with the engine. He only stated it and ran it for about 20 seconds. It is pretty loud, So i just dont know. I happens to be a 1995 Eagle Talon TSI AWD

Well they went out for a reason, I would find the reason before just slapping bearings in it. Without fiding the cause, it will happen again.

id suspect that the high mileage would do it. Could of been something to do with the oil pressure also. Im not sure. Ive always wanted a eagle talon TSI.

Those 4G63 engines are pretty stout once they're together, probably just high mileage on the bearings, might wanna check oil pressure too though...

That was gonna be another things i was gonna check out. Ill have to do some more research but from what it looked like the oil pump is just like the 22R's and like the corvette part of the front cover

those tsi are known for being made really fast. my only advice is if it has a problem like this right off the bat what else might he be hiding and and if it takes pulling the engine out to fix it absoultly dont do it cheap. weather u do it urself our not plan on doing oil pump, gasket kit, bearings, etc... even machining the block ive tried to projects on the cheap and its only come back to bite me in the ass.

Earlier RX7s are more fun. Eagle Talons and Eclipses are junk. Pretty stout my butt, I worked on those pieces crap and do not wish that on anyone. RX7s on the other hand are neat little cars. But they are hard to get parts for and hope the one you buy does not have a rusted gas tank or you will get quick at taking that sucker out and vaccuming it. Also the price range your looking at does not seem to give you any room to really look for something reliable.

I had early Talons / Eclipses (90-92) and went through a few 4G63 / 4G64 blocks, they always worked out fine if they were put together well.

Well if thats all you have you might want to look into getting something that is not sporty at all. And is reliable as all hell. I hated doing it myself but I had no choice at the time and the little beater I had would take anything. Without it I don't think I would have had the credit to get what I have now. That little car helped me save money and catch up on det. 86 dodge lancer. The little K-car.

Lol. If i had my choice it would be a 91 nissan Hardbody truck 2wd sb standard cab. That was my first vehicle and i beat it to all hell and back and it still ran. Just ppl are not selling them right now. The Rotarys are very reliable if you maintain them. Just like anything else lol.

Dude, run far away. Those DSI cars are money pits. My buddy had 3 of them, and no matter how much money he put in it it kept breaking.
