New to US and MPSF

G'day All,

I'm Pete, a recent 'alien' from Australia. Found this place through MFs site (thanks for the linking Laura!)

I just picked myself up an '05 V6 for a daily driver to get about town and see some of this vast country. I'm living in Bethesda (yes almost DC...) but plan to move north-east of Baltimore at the end of the year.

I might talk a little 'weird' and have some peculiar non-US like oddities, but other than that, I'm fairly 'normal'.

I'm looking forward to getting out and meeting some new people over here, so hopefully I'm in the right place!

Good on ya mate. Australia. is one of the few countries I'd like to revisit. It took us a little while to realize why there were so many Orientals there. Duhhh not real sharp on the geography I guess. Welcome, hope to meet you once it gets warm.

OK first off, your in the wrong place if your "Normal"

Second, Black Becky is sweet, Of course I am partial, Big Blue is like her different colour sister, Nice Hood In fact I have those same turn signals on the way to me right now, Cant wait to see her in person

Are you looking at lowering her or just trying to upgrade the stock components?

American Muscle is a great place to start when looking for aftermarket goodies.

Not too sure on what I am after though. I have never had a Mustang & don't know the best parts combo's etc.. The ride is rough and I think it is largely due to the suspension being "tired" (5-6 yrs old now). I was thinking of something like a set of D-spec Adjustable Tokico's or similar to hopefully put a little 'spring' back in her step.

Would appreciate advice on general ride quality if I also put a new set of lower springs in at the same time. I've already started putting in Dynamat, to deaden the 'tin can' vibrations and hence reduce interior noise and that harsh suspension feel.

Any advice on a good suspension shop somewhere in south-west Maryland where I can get the once over and perhaps new gear fitted?

I used 1 1/2" Ford Racing lowering springs and the ride is about the same as the OEM. Bob Thompson has the same springs plus an adjustable heavy front duty sway bar for sale.

The mustangs weren't made to ride soft lol. I hade a 08 V6 with 13K miles on it when i got it and and it rode ruff but i loved it. The first thing you need to decide is what you want to do. Do you want to make it a drag car or a corner carver? Because each setup is completely different than each other. Now performance is the same kinda lol.
First is JLT cold air intake with a SCT programmer. That will get you about 20 HP and a good few extra MPG's. Then look into exhaust there X pipes H pipe GT take off mufflers, Magnaflow kits. Shorty headers long tube headers. Sooooo much to look at and drool over. BBK throttle body. TB spacers. Some things i did where HID Bi-xenon soo much better over stock. Shorty headers, Tuner and cold air intake, throttle body spacer. I never did dyno the car but with the tuner it made a huge differance over stock

Like Chris said, the car inst going to ride smooth, it designed to have a sports car ride, but at any rate, a strut tower brace will make the front struts do there job better and take out some of the bend in the front end, also the Panhard brace on the rear on the S197 is made out of nothing but stamped metal, you can buy a better one or Bob Thompson can reinforce the one you have for a lot less money, we experimented on his mine and another one, and it worked out great, I have a slightly used GT500 suspension under mine, and i love it, there are far better after market struts and shocks then the GT 500, but I got it for a good deal and it only had like 12'000 miles on it, and mine had 100'000 miles on it, and was ready for new struts and shocks any way, and then I added the Steeda strut tower brace, the one of of the GT 500 wouldn't work on the V6, and the Steeda one was a much better brace as well.

And you have a V6 correct? there is only a few mufflers that sound good on them, the GT take off, but there quiet, the MAC like I have, that sounds great, and in the middle for loudness, they do drone in the car but I hear installing the Dynamat helps deaden that droning, and your all ready doing that any way, and there is another one, but I cant think of the brand rite now that sounds good on the 4.0 and its much louder, so it all depends on the sound your looking for.
