Re: Turbo Charger
just from an inexperienced 18 year old's point of view -- i'd go supercharged.
constant power, no lag, and belt driven.
with a turbo you've got a lag, more piping, and probably more expensive to install. granted... when you do have boost running, you can probably run a higher PSI

Re: Turbo Charger
Will should be able to tell you about turbos!
I agree with Chris. When i go power adder, personally, i am going to supercharge. However, a supercharger will run off your engine, obviously, but the turbo runs off exhaust, which means it wont hurt your engine.... too much lol

Re: Turbo Charger
Ive seen a 05 GT with a single Turbo pushing 650 RWHP on a stock block. With a SP ur only gonna get 500's unless you get some ridiculis SP wich can cost a lot more than a single turbo setup on a GT. And with a GT and the right Turbo you can have instant power. These two ^^ goobers dont know too much....It all depends on what you want. There both about the same amount. The turbo will take longer to install. But to get more power all you have to do is crank up the boost. Both will be fun

Re: Turbo Charger
I ran a supercharger on my stang. It didnt really "kick" in untill after 3000 rpms. Turbos come in at lower rpms and are insane at higher rpms. Like Chris said its all on what you want. Next time im going with a turbo.

Re: Turbo Charger
With anything there are pro's and cons
Supercharger
Pros:
1. ease of install
2. simplistic design
3. Usually a little more snappy and less lag but this is a myth
4. less engine bay heat, yet I coated and wrapped and engine bay heat is less than stock
cons
1. belt driven, run off all accessories, break a belt and you get towed home. You will go through belts a lot if you run smaller pulleys
2. parasitic loss
Turbos
pros:
1. no parasitic loss
2. Flat torque curve and instant torque/hp
3. Will make more power per atmosphere, than supercharger
4. Less fuel used, efficiency
5. oil is from crankcase so gets changed with oil change
6. with a slight bit of lag, on the street you will have less tire shock, and will grip a lot easier, and it pulls like a frieght train. Superchargers gain power through the rpm, yet a turbo has the same boost throughout rmp once max desired boost is achieved.
7. you can go from 5lbs, 10lbs, 20lbs with a touch of a button, superchargers have to change pulley
8. no broken belts
9. being different
10. everyone wants a turbo v8
cons
1. heat
2. difficult and lengthy install
3. difficult tuning at times
4. ease of upping boost
While I have had lots of issues so did superchargers back on 2005 when the mustang came out. I was one of the first turbo 05+ cars when I built mine, and design/aftermarket parts are much wiser/different. Lots of items on my car are from scratch, and will find the limits of a crazy dude like me...
I hope the next time mine is on the road its for good, as I think I have found every bug there is

Re: Turbo Charger
I would say check out the Hellion Kit or the Powerhouse kit, both can be done "safe" with the stock block. I have heard good things about both, but no personal experience.

Re: Turbo Charger
hmm.... maybe one day i will go Twin turbo then
There is a guy here at VT wtih a '79 Fox looking real good (look on my facebook). It has a 306 darkblock with a single turbo and he said it gets 650+hp. We were all at the car show, which was in a parking lot next to a 2 lane road both ways. he went to leave the show to take someone for a ride in it. once he stepped on it the back end just broke loose, even with nice welds, and all the way through 3rd gear he was basically burning out lol. it was CRAZYchrisverneuil wrote:Ive seen a 05 GT with a single Turbo pushing 650 RWHP on a stock block.

Re: Turbo Charger
I love the control you have with a turbo. I can set my launch boost, then ramp in my target boost by time, for example last year I had a manual controller with about 20 psi set, by the time the tree came down my boost pressure was climbing to 12 plus psi which my tires/suspension could not hold. I went with an AMS boost controller, and this passed weekend I could sit at the light all day long on the TB if I wanted to and my boost would not go past 8 psi. Once I let go of the button the boost ramps in to target 16psi about 1.4 seconds later allowing me to get a 1.38 60' before full boost kicks in. My controller also lets me turn the psi up during a run, like a shot of nitrous, or turn it down during a run if I had to slow down without getting on brakes.
You can also change the way turbos build boost, just have to purchase the right turbo. When my car was a street car I had the stock powerhouse kit which was a 67mm with .84ar exhaust, the thing spooled to 11psi almost instantly.
Like Will said, I won't go back to a SC (broke too many belts), but I would love to drive a car with an F3.

Have many dealings with chad the owner, and he buys the kits from china. The stainless steel he uses is a joke. There are horror stories if how his headers explode due to using thin stainless with no supports on the turbo. Many people don't know of the problems but chad has ripped a few people off with his so called warranty. Just my 02 but search on3 problems.

This! It's a cheap chinese knockoff kit. A quick google search turns up many horror stories.

Re: Turbo Charger
Turbo = sexy crazy power. Also wierd issues in new edge 'Stangs. But ask Will, he's come across and (mostly) fixed them all.
Supercharger = played out and common. Issues are mostly belts and fuel use.
My $ 0.02 .
