exhaust on a V6
alright i sat down with myself and decided that im not going to any extremes to make my mustang a freakin tank. i think im just gonna do some minor things to the mustang i have now. My question is; if i get an intake and headers, would an off road h pipe sound like a fart cannon or what. I dont think it would be that deep, maybe a little deeper cause of the intake and headers but not like a V8. idk what do you guys think. And girls. :face:
Re: exhaust on a V6
ok wanna do the 3.8 right with minor bolt ons?
Exhaust:
Long Tube Headers
Off-Road X-Pipe (If you wanna go off road route)
Flow 40s (they will give you a really deep mellow sound for a v6)
Intake:
Port and Polish Lower Intake
Windstar Upper Intake (Comes with Cold Air Kit)
Other:
Underdrive Pulleys (Dont do if you plan to go SC)
Tuner
3.73 Gears
Posi-Trac
After all that youll have a good amount of horsepower and keep up with 6ers like eddie and lightly modded gts
If you want to go N/A...
4.2L Bore and Stroke Kit w/ forged internals and a mild cam
at that point you can get nitrous and run 150 shot fine
If you want to go forced induction...
Pick turbo or supercharger then from there bore and stroke according to compression ratios...Will (TT_05stang) is the best to talk to about FI
Anymore question just ask ive dont alot of research on modding the 3.8

Re: exhaust on a V6
All I can say is pick a goal and do it right once. I have wasted tons of money on parts, and then end up ripping them off later because they wont work with somethign I am modding...
As far as the v6 they are stout to the 450rwhp mark. They come already with forged rods. The pistons are that causes issues past the 450 mark. If you like to do mechanical work yourself, I would do a DIY single turbo kit on your car. I believe you can use the stock headers, and flip them forwards, use a ball and socket flange and create a crossover tube. I have a mig welder we can fab up the hot side with. Tubing will cost you around 100 or so for a box of tubing we would need to cut and weld together for the hot side crossover and the cold side. You wuold need a Blow through MAF sensor preferably a Pro Tube (300). Injectors (250+). The 7.5 rear end will not handle the power and will have to be replaced with an 8.8 that will bolt right in, from a junk yard for under 300. Finally you will need a turbo. You can get a Master Power t-60 for around 500 new. Get yourself a tuner for under 300, and you have yourself a GT killer.

Re: exhaust on a V6
yeah me too believe me ive dreamed all about everything you said but all im thinking about doin is exhaust right noww. One step at a time man, money's tight. I was lookin at shorty headers, the pypes x o/r conversion mid pipe, and SLP loudmouths
Re: exhaust on a V6
slp sound nasty on a 6 if you like the raspy sound if i ever put exhaust on my 6 it would be slps...
stock, the 99-04 v6 mustang comes with cast iron manifolds. a short tube header will have 3 separate primaries (1 for each exhaust port) that merge into one at a collector pipe close to the engine. the primaries are short in length - hence short tube headers. these flow better over the stock manifolds, but long tube headers flow more and can support more flow overall, thus are a better option for a supercharged motor or a motor with more air flow.
the power is mostly found by moving the powerband up higher in the rpm's and increasing it as well.
for power and sound:
manifolds < short tube headers < long tube headers
and i believe shortys are better for turbos but once again I lack in the forced induction area of knowledge...ask mr will

Re: exhaust on a V6
Ya, the 3.8/3.9 sounds great with Flow's, my buddy had them on a 3.8 and it was real close to the sound of a GT, almost, as for the 4.0 the Mac sounds best, but it doesn't get near as close as the 3.8/3.9 with Flwo's

Re: exhaust on a V6
I had a buddy with a 95 sixxer and he had shorties, off road H pipe and flows and it sounded damn near a stock GT, for what it's worth.

I'm thinking about twin turbo-ing it later like the new GT-R so i might go with the shorties and plus, that way i can put my stock exhaust back on for emmissions testing.

Re: exhaust on a V6
why do you want to buy shorty headers, whether bolt the off road H on your stock ones or get the LT's.

Re: exhaust on a V6
alright my slps came in and im putting them on tomorrow in the sleet. it's my only day off and im in love with my car. My lt headers haven't come in yet and niether has the mid pipe. My transmission is pretty much shot though so it doesn't matter if my exhaust is half done for now cause im not even driving it right now. BTW i went with MAC LT headers MAC O/R H Pipe and the SLP LM 1's. Should sound alright. And i decided to get a brand new trany from my friend that works for napa. Hopefully a new one will be more reliable than getting one off a junker. I also have a friend with a lift who is gonna help me put it in. If any of you have some knowlege of swapping out transmissions hit me up, maybe you can help me tackle this. also, do i need to by a new throw away bearing if im swapping over my old clutch which is actually only 9 months old?
