Muffler Choice
I'm in the market for an upgraded muffler, and I can't quite choose.
I have an o/r x pipe set up right now, and I'm thinking Violators or MACs. I've heard that MACs sound like crap with an x though. I like a good rumble/growl, but want as little drone as possible while cruising.
Any suggestions?

Re: Muffler Choice
Depends on what you like. If you like a deeper, older style mustang sound, you will need to go with a mid muffler or resonator. Then you would run a straight pipe like the SLP's. Then you would get a more traditional sound, like the 04 and older.
Our cars have the muffler at the tailpipe, which creates a more raspy sound right off the bat. If you like a raspy sound I like my Bassani X with the cats out, and Corsa mufflers. However when I added the Turbo's it quieted the car down... until you hit the loud pedal
With your OR X I would kinda stay away from the SLP's, it will be rediculously raspy and loud. Corsa, Bassani or Borla would be my choice if you are going to run your O/R x.

Re: Muffler Choice
Im getting BOOM TUBES for my car. I heard them on Silverstangs car and fell for them, I've also heard the SLP's on Big Mikes car and not to hip on those. The B-T's dont have the drone at hwy speeds either. And not real expensive! goto ninosport.com and hear them on a 05+ GT.

Powerflows look like they are the same design as the Corsa's. I would say they are going to be ok. The Loud Mouths would not. I have heard a few of them and seriously it was rediculous. I would not want to drive with those more than 15-20 min with an O/R X. I cant tell if the Powerflows are a straight through design. If they are then they would be an exact replica of the Corsa design.

Re: Muffler Choice
Bethel the best thing to do is see what some members have and check out how they sound to you. I have also seen where people have swapped with other's to see how their muffler sounds with their H or X. Maybe on the install day .
Sound clips will get you an idea, however it wont sound exactly how it will on your car.

I like the way the sound on mine though. Totally different animal though.
Totally agree with you Bernie. The Mid muffler design prior to the s197 is superior in sounding at least to me. Of course I grew up with the sound of a pushrod motor and mid mufflers. So I am biased. To get that great sound like yours we would have to go with a mid resonator, or a bullet style muffler and move the saddlebag tanks. Then run straight pipes over the rear and out like your car, and pretty much ever mustang prior to 05.

Wow. That sounds like ass. No thanks to the SLP loudmouths! But I think I've heard that before too.

My car will sound totally different too, since I am running turbos. The turbines change the sound pretty drastically.

Re: Muffler Choice
I have the boom tubes and I love them. Very little drone around town and none on the highway. Like others have said you really have to hear different types in person to make a choice on what you like best. I am planning to be at the bowling/ meeting on the 22nd so you can hear what I have and I am sure the others will as well.
