Painting Calipers
So my calipers need fresh coats of paint. I seen on AM that they have a kit where you can paint them without removal.
My questions are, do I need to remove the old paint before apply fresh coats and is there any disadvantage of not removing the calipers and painting them? It'll be the same color.. red, might not be the same shade though.

Re: Painting Calipers
If the paint on the calipers now isn't adhering good, then painting over it won't be any better. It will still peel/flake off.

Re: Painting Calipers
Whats the best way to remove the paint or just go for a new set of calipers?
I like those wheels on your car btw. I didn't really get to look at your car yesterday :o

Re: Painting Calipers
Hey nancy, I still got left over Duplicolor paint from when i painted my calipers, You can use it if ya want. Its red. Ive got a drill with wire brush attachments wich will take the old paint off and strip it down so the new piant can adhere good.

Thanks Chris! That'll be pretty cool. I'd need help though, I have no idea what I'm doing, aside from taking the wheels off -_-

Re: Painting Calipers
As Chris was saying, just use the wire brush to knock off any lose paint and will also scuff up the remaining paint and will let the new paint adhere better. A little bit of masking off areas where you don't want paint is all you need to do. Then just paint away, let it dry. I'd try not to drive the car anywhere for at least 12 hours after to let it sit and cure a bit...esp if it's raining or the roads are wet.
I used G2 epoxy paint kit and am really pleased with it
Here is where I got mine from...

Re: Painting Calipers
oh wow, that metallic red finish looks real good. I am thinking of picking up that kit. Does it look that way or is it just my monitor?
Suppose Chris can help me clean it up, if you still want to and then I can paint them here at home(?) otherwise I'd be stuck at your place if I can't drive home :p

Re: Painting Calipers
I used the duplicolor ceramic kit on my rear calipers. I used a few coats and let it cure overnight and didnt drive my car til later the next day. I haven't had any chipping or flaking or anything. I didn't take the calipers off and used a brush on kit. Worked great! I'm pretty sure the duplicolor kit says to let it cure for several hours...
Edit: The kit I got says to wait 2 hours to install the wheels and 24 hours to cure before driving. It was the duplicolor cermic kit from American Muscle.

Re: Painting Calipers
Unless you grind your calipers smooth, they won't look like that pic. They will be nice and shiny though as it is high gloss epoxy paint!
Due to limited garage space, I jacked mine up one corner at a time, applied one heavy coat, put the wheel back on a few minutes after, moved to the next corner. It sat from late afternoon until mid morning the next day before I drove it. That was several months ago and they still look great...once they're cleaned up
That would be the best way, BUT involves removal of the calipers and possibly not having the use of your car for several days or longersvtwin73 wrote:Just powder coat!!!
