painting my car...
so im going to have someone paint my car... not sure who yet..
any opinions on maaco? I dont want something special. im not going for perfection here, althought it must look good. just need it to be sanded, primed, painted, clear coated.

Re: painting my car...
You get what you pay for. I'd advise patience and try to save up $3000 or so and get something a bit more long lasting. There should be several body shops that can quote a basic paint job for that much.
Laura and my son Zach have used Roy's Auto Body in Eldersburg, MD (Carroll County) with very good results. Most important, they have exceptional customer service and are honest with you. Brian is a regular member on Metro Area Mustangs where most members have Fox Bodies. I would sign up there and post your request.

Re: painting my car...
My guy Bill does great work. He`s the only one I trust with my cars. He painted nightmare, some work on my 09, my moms car, many friends of mine cars, and he`s buffing my Benz right now. He`s the man!

Re: painting my car...
MAACO SUCKS! Paint will fade in like 6-8 months time. Your would be better priming the car and painting it matt black yourself....

Re: painting my car...
Bill did my front bumper and it is great. I think his shop is just called Bills Auto Body. It's in westminster. His shop looks like a hole in the wall but he does great work.

Like anyone else is going to tell you. They gotta see it. His prices are less than a regular shop would be but more than a macco job because the quailty is there.

Re: painting my car...
Sooooooo, How is multiple coats of clear coat a bad thing, if I where having my car painted I would expect a minimum of 3 - 5 coats of clear.mine1317 wrote:don't go there man, they put like 5 coats of clear coat to make it look good.

Macco paint jobs are a smooth as the beaches in Ocean City after everyones trampled on it. They look good from 15ft.

i'm not sure exactly how many layers they use but, they use more clear coat that the paint itself. I just wouldn't suggest that shop cause 2 of my friends went there and after a couple months, the clear coat started fading.

Re: painting my car...
yeah i went just for an estimate. I went to this place called "weaver's custom paint shop" just now to get an estimate just for the hood and the roof. about $1000 tops cause that includes doing some type of acid remover if it is indeed acid. Is that a good number? or should i keep searching
Re: painting my car...
any good painter will lay a min of 3-5 coats of clear, how do you think show car finishes are made?? I've seen up to 7 done before cause after wet sanding and buffing 3-4 coats can be removed to get that glass finish and the last thing you wanna do is lay it thin and burn through to the basemine1317 wrote:don't go there man, they put like 5 coats of clear coat to make it look good.
