Actual phone conversation transcript between Ford and Getrag, 5 May, 2009:

Getrag- Guten Tag!, Getrag Tranzmissions here.

Ford- Yeah this is Ford Procurement from Mexi.....uh, I mean Michigan. We'd like to make a deal for six speed transmissions for our next Mustang.

Getrag- Oh, zis very good. Vee have a vonderful unit for you, very zimilar to zee vun in zee M3.

Ford- Ok great, we'll take thirty thousand to start. One little thing though, since we're buying so many, we're only going to pay a quarter of what BMW does. Sorry.

Getrag- No, zat von't do. Vee can't make zem for dat. Not double zat.

Ford- Oh, no problem. Just send one to any plant in China, and they'll duplicate it almost close to exactly for ten percent of the cost. Those kids work for a few scraps of rice. We'll both make a fortune.

Getrag- ::crickets::

Ford- Hello? Are you there?

Getrag- I don't zink dis is a good idea.....

Ford- No worries Hanz, how do you think WalMart gets all it's garba......I mean products so cheap. It'll be fine.

Getrag- But what if zey fail from......how you say.......recycled vok metal? Zis could cause a major PR probzem.

Ford- Nonsense you crazy kraut. All people care about anymore is that we had enough assets to sell off and didn't need a bailout. We're infallible in the public eye right now. And even if a widespread failure happens, well, hello? we're Ford! C'mon, Pinto? Explorer? You think we give a crap about failures? Put a transmission on the next boat and let the little Ping-Dongs take it from there.
