Thinking of dropping in a 5.0
What do you guys think of putting in a pulled fox body 5.0 engine in my 2000 V6. I need more power and i think if i buy a used 5.0 from a fox body it would be cheap and i could build it up for cheaper that buying a GT. Plus they sound kick a$$.
Re: Thinking of dropping in a 5.0
different ecu/harness setups would be the first issue id say...turbo the 6.........check out tmaturbo.com
i was looking into building a twin turbo 4.3 v6 from the 3.8 i had.....i had a 2000 v6 before my gt. that or a v8 swap....pi mod motor.

Re: Thinking of dropping in a 5.0
emissions for the state, there are tag issues for that kind of mod, you would have to declare your car a street rod, get a mechanics cert, and then still conform to the california emissions standards..then they might still revoke your tags.. My buddy is going through that now with his ranger, the state law says the engine listed on the manufacture tag of the vehicle in its class can not exceed the maximum capacity and emissions out put of the largest vehicle per liter output of the class. in other words, get it emissions tested, pass, drop thee motor in, drive it for 2 years and sell it, it wont pas the second time.

Re: Thinking of dropping in a 5.0
bummer that sounds like a hassle maybe ill do other stuff to it like a wider posi rear end to prepare for the 5.0 till i can get another car to be my daily driver. There's a lot of other stuff that i wanna do to it when i have th 5.0 in it. I think ill just stick to the small stuff for now. Thanks for the heads up though. I mean does that sound like a good plan.

Repair Waiver
An application for a waiver may be submitted after a vehicle fails the test, undergoes a repair, and fails the test again. The owner(s) must submit original receipts or invoices indicating the minimum repair cost of $450.00 has been spent on emissions related repairs.
The emissions related repair must be made up to 30 days before or 120 days after the first inspection. Federal and state laws do not allow repairs to the exhaust system beyond the catalytic converter to count towards a waiver.
Therefore if you modify the vehical it is technically illegal... but... you can apply for a waiver.
I did this almost 20 years ago... I had a 81 buick regal diesel 350 given to me. The motor was blown and I had an old 327 corvette motor in the garage. I put it in and took it to emissions. I had reciepts for everything to put the new motor in. They wrote me a waiver that I didnt have to go through emissions. I'm not saying that this will work for you, just giving my experience.

ODBII connection. As long as the computer does not read any error codes you are good to go. there wasnt a pushrod motor with ODBII ECU Ford had moved to mod motors by 96. It would be easier for him to drop in a mod motor, and have them do a sniff test... would pass with flying colors...

Re: Thinking of dropping in a 5.0
bbbbbbbbbb yea so this isn't gonna be as easy as i thought. Not that it would be easy in the first place. Haha.. so you're saying i should say i needed repairs and i put in a new engine as my repair and it cost more than $450. But first my car needs to fail right.

the connections and such are universal nearly.....honda/acura made things so easy and so much alike that you could pull a non vtec head and drop a vtec head on the b18/b16 h22 etc....the only thing is taht the same cant be done to the f20/k20 engines.....the k20/k24 can be frankenstined but it requires much more detailed swap.
ive been talking to MMR aboutdoing a 5.4 in my stang yet the fore/aft movement isnt there and id have toswap hoods for n/a and have togo to a 4"+ cowl hood for a 5.4 with twinscrew/roots s/c on it. then add in the 2v to 4v swap desired it gets priceyand kinda worthkless unless doing all race with it.
to my knowledge u have to go to emmisions/or miss emmisions......got to a reputable shop......have them diagnose a head/engine issue....replace the engine......and have a valid receipt to show/document for emmsions.....now...youd have to get emissions done 2yrs later......but sopme places you can get around it and some places will waive you for being too low or if u kick some green to the right person you will get waived again.....this is how many ppl avoid emmisions. (by being lowered, by shelling out some dough, by telling the place theyll pay for your expensive exhaust if they rip it or manglke it during the attempt to get it on the rollers)......however to my knowledge you must pull i up in the lane and have them make an attempt b4 they will waive or consider such./...not my personal experience...but knowledge form many buddies/coworkers who avoid/get waived on their vehicles. also clearing all codes too soon will make it so uwill fail bc not all tests will have ran and not all flags that should be present will be there.....so insufficient data will be presnt in the pcm/ecm/vcm/tcm/tccm/abs/tcs....etc......for them to run their tests....(sorry for any spelling/grammar issues...work computer all f'd up)
