Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
Track opens at 10am, racing starts at 12pm. Laura and I are dusting the cobwebs off the cars for the first time this season. JJ from Woodbine Motorsports will be there either running his 9 second Lightning or his 10 second BOLT ON 2011 Mustang GT street car. Late lunch/early dinner in Frederick (Famous Daves??).

Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
It's hard to tell what the crowd will look like. Given the weather it can be pretty busy around 3pm, but sometimes it's no problem running as much as you want without a wait. We just need 3-4 runs to gauge where the cars are performing and intend to stay until 3-4 or so...
Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
I don't think I will be there, my car is done but staying at JJ's shop until Monday evening. I'll probably spend the day at home working job #2
How often do you guys go to M.D. John? I definitely plan on being there a few times this season to watch.

Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
Two years ago, we did Mason Dixon and MIR frequently, probably once a month. Last year, we hardly did anything. For this year, both of us are pretty stoked. In early April there's a private track rental at MIR on a Friday and we'll be there. Later that month, we'll miss the Northern Virginia Mustang Club's rental at Mason Dixon as we have already set up other plans. In May, we're headed to MIR for 3 days for the NMRA long weekend. June through August is shows and cruise-ins, and we'll pick up racing again in September through November.
Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
I just got in from the garage. I was trying to help my 18yo put a transsmission in his car.
If I get up in time, I will come out and see what my new motor can do.
Does Bronson still get out?

Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
Well, we had a fair showing of MD Patriots at the track today.
Randy brought his new GT500, and despite some tune and traction problems he had a pretty good mph going. Set up that rear end properly, get a custom tune, and you'll be feared for sure.
Dave brought his SN95 Cobra, and with a fresh engine to boot. Some decent times, although he's hearing a roller rocker making some noise. Uh, you did torque everything, right Dave????
Laura was deadly consistent with her 5sp, and is a born bracket racer. You go girl.
Big Mike brought his (bone stock???) 2012 5.0 and ripped through the 13s improving along the way. You should have heard the announcer foaming at the mouth when Mike ran down the 1320, expounded on how damn fast the factory Fords were. Mike did all this on street tires!
JJ from Woodbine Motorsports was there in his bolt on 2011 5.0 running low 11s all day. No boost, no cams, stock block. Just intake and exhaust mods, plus lower control arms and a few other stick ons. Damn that is one fast 2011.
Me? Damn tranny is going south, and I'm looking for a rebuild job to firm up the 3650 5spd. Missed third and sometimes fourth every run except the very first one... At least it hooked up ok...

Well, let's look at the good news. You improved two tenths, and your high mph was just under my best for the day, and I could only muster 12.5. Tells me that a set of drag radials will but you in the mid 12s with a little work. You did great Mike...

Not much since I sold the Mustang. Hopefully the boss will let me get another toy, but for now, buying a house is the main priority.DRRummel wrote:

Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
So as I line up for my last pass I notice that my temp gauge and at 0. The car has been sitting for an hour, but I still think it is a bit odd.
As I warm up the tires the temperature gauge reads correctly.
As I roll to the line it drops to Zero again.
I am thinking a loose wire on the sender or low coolant.
Gauge reads good for the pass and drops to 0 on the return road.
Odd. Loose wire?
I was done for the day anyway. I head to the convince store and after checking the sensor connector I buy 2 liters of water and top off the overflow tank. It only takes a little over 1 liter. The tank was not empty. I start the car and the gauge still reads 0. I tap the gas and the gauge jumps up. I notice that the gauge drops to 0 exactly when the RPMs drop below 1500. Every time.
THEN it hits me, that is the oil pressure gauge, not the coolant temp gauge. I watched that gauge all the way home and kept the RPMs over 1500. A bit nerve racking.
I doubt that RPM would affect sending unit, but it is a cheap and easy swap. Otherwise I will start with checking the driven gear on the distributor for missing teeth or a broken roll pin.

Re: Test n Tune, Mason Dixon, Sunday March 18
Ive broken a many oil pump shaft... usually its the opposite... will show oil pressure at low rpm until you romp on it... but I have seen where at low RPM it downs grab the hex... especially happens with high volume oil pumps...
I purchased a trickflow chrome molly oil pump shaft and never had issues again.
Hope you figure it out.
