I've never thought that... I love it due to the exhaust note is louder more of the time! I don't need an extra gear during the times I have my 4x4 tires on the backalkemist wrote:Now I know why people tend to say they wish there was a 6th gear. lol.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
From what I have picked up when making a choice, nothing wrong with 3.73, it's just that 4.10 provide a bigger bang and increase for the same procedure and slightly less gas mileage, especially when it's put into an auto.
I noticed though, you gotta get used to driving 65-70 mph for the best gas economy.. ummm just a little slower than I'm used to
I nearly kicked my own ass yesterday with the 4.10 gear by accident. lol. Was the first car at a stop light, turned green, stepped on the throttle a little too hard, started to launch like a beast so I instinctively let off the throttle, tried to pick it back up and I stalled for a split second since it was switching gears lol.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
One nice thing about our auto, 4.10s and the above situation...while your at a stop, shift it down into 3. You will start out in 3rd gear, but with the 4.10s, you'll have no problems getting up to speed and then just shift it back into D. I do that mostly in bumper to bumper traffic moving below 35-40 mph...it eliminates all the firm shifting all the time.alkemist wrote:I nearly kicked my own ass yesterday with the 4.10 gear by accident. lol. Sounds like the 4.10s turned your car into a torque moster.

Ohhh k, I'll try that. Lol, my auto can get touchy at times. What's nice is that my nittos held up good. It didn't feel like there was going to be any slip, even with tcs off.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
Auto, 4.10s, 93 tune and short tires make for ineresting lower speed experiences as we have no clutch to feather. That's how I learned about using 3rd.

Wait, how the hell do you stall an automatic car by doing that?

Re: 4.10 FRPP
Nah, I just have to give it precise control and I'm good to go. Not sure what it'll be like when I take the nitto's off for winter though lol.
Must of been with my tune, because 1 and 2 gear is extremely short. The auto must of been switching gears before I let off the throttle and it went down a gear immediately, it does happen from time to time when I do something like that.

Yes. Not all the time, but when I don't want it to spin the tires near a cop and I don't always feel like being jerked around on start off.Smokeurhonda wrote:kooldawg6 wrote:Auto, 4.10s, 93 tune and short tires make for ineresting lower speed experiences as we have no clutch to feather. Re: 4.10 FRPP
See this whole jerked around thing I don't understand. I've driven plenty of auto stangs with 4.10 gears. I have yet to drive an 197 auto though. All I know is other trannies would have a fit if starting off in 3rd all the time.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
It's not normal behavior for it to jerk. It was driver error
I don't like to start from 3rd much because seems like the tranny requires much more, but then that's helps prevent burning the rubber lol.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
Running the 93 race tune with extreme throttle response causes the car to jerk/lunge.

lol, yeah that too. My car doesn't seem to be as responsive since the last few days. I know I'm rounding near 39k miles and there are probably parts that will require maintenance. I had my slp's installed but that shouldn't be an issue. I just seem to lack the luster accelerating. Suggestions? I'd prolly need help too lol.
How do I wash out the CAI filter?

Re: 4.10 FRPP
Perhaps you got a bad tank of gas??? The fuel filter should be replaced...fairly simple and cheap. Spark plugs should be at least pulled and checked. (mine are still in and unchecked after 102K miles! I have the replacement set laying in the garage, but kinda scared of breaking them inside the head...dreaded '05-early '07 S197 problem). The muffler swap/delete will not cause that. Have you tried reloading your tune since it seems less responsive???alkemist wrote:kooldawg6 wrote:Running the 93 race tune with extreme throttle response causes the car to jerk/lunge.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
I haven't reloaded the tune yet and I just filled up the other day and still seems the same. I am thinking maybe the fuel filter. I don't have any service records from the previous owner so I'm thinking it is still the original in there. I hear ya on the spark plugs, I'm a bit dreaded on that one too.

Re: 4.10 FRPP
The problem you are discribing is a common one. It's called getting used to a faster car, making it seem not as fast anymore.
