Springs?!
So to keep you all in the loop.....as you know i recently ordered new wheels for my car. well, i ended up ordering the wrong ones!! DOH! my inexperience got the best of me........so after some research and help from some of you all(thanks John and Will) i decided to get another new pair of shoes! the first pair i bought are completely compatible for the car, but there was big debate on how they would work if i lowered the car. AND i do want to lower her! i lucked out and found a close friend who was more than willing to take the wheels off my hands for the same price i paid!! so i jumped right on the deal and sold him the wheels.
so of course after selling my stockers to Alex and my recent ones i purchased, i am now left with no shoes at all! well, i took some time last night and looked around for some wheels. i am absolutely in love with the black chrome, so my first instinct was to shop around to see what my choices were. after an hour or so of searching and talking to Will to get some advice i decided what i was going to purchase. this morning i called and spoke with the same representative i've talked with the last few times i called....Alex is his name! great guy and after explaining my situation and giving me his feedback we put the order together! he did some fine-tuning for me and then talked to his manager about getting me a discount.......and boy did he work his magic. he ended up saving me over $400!!!!
sorry to make this into a novel, but to make the story short.......my new wheels and tires are being shipped today and i figured why not order some springs and knock it all out at once!! so my question is.......what lowering springs would you all suggest??? i honestly was looking at the eibach pro kit..........

Re: Springs?!
the prokit and the frpp are the exact same springs. i think they'd be a good choice. If not those than maybe some steeda ultralites. So what was wrong with your wheels? were they the wrong offset? You didnt buy the fr500s did you?

Re: Springs?!
I am glad it all worked out. Your car is gonna look bitchin with the FR500's in black chrome...
That was my choice when I was looking for rims... I was torn between the FR500's and the Redlines that I have...

Can you post pics of the new wheels you ordered. I am thinking about getting some springs to but I am always told to get the shocks and struts at the same time. what do you all think?

Springs are real easy on our car...not sure about the S197. I put the FRPP "C" springs on my car so I wouldn't have to get caster/camber plates and new shocks/struts. I think if you go with a bigger drop, you might want to go ahead and replace the shocks/struts since you will have it all apart anyway for the springs. I figured I would wait until I HAD to get new shocks/struts.

Re: Springs?!
What tire size would you like to go with this time? Most people seem to go with the springs that drop the car 1-1.5" as it provides increased handling and looks without having to replace other suspension pieces. Upgrading those will help, but for general street cruising, isn't required. I would advise against the sportlines as they lower the car nearly 2" in the back! That will reduce your tire size choices. Are you going staggered wheel sizes or the same all the way around? If you go the same all the way around, the Sportlines will work as you might only be able to squeeze a 275 on the wheel. That will fit, but the ride is going to be much harsher! Also, going that low, I would suggest replacing the struts/shocks as well as that drop will push the stockers to and beyond their physical limits. Mine is lowered 1.75" front and 1.5" rear and I have plenty of room (in the back) for a 28"+ and very hopefully the 29"+ tire and very close to 12" wide! I run 255/45-18 on 18x8.5 up front and 295/45-18 (Nitto-then) and 285/50-18 (Dunlop-now) on 18x10 out back.

Re: Springs?!
John, i went staggered again like before......18x9(275/40/18 ) and 18x10(285/40/18 ) in the rear. i only want to drop an inch or a little more. with the CS package, the car already sits an inch lower the the regular GT, so i don't want to go too drastic. i've seen and read a few other GT/CS's using the Eibach Pro Kit with no issues.

Re: Springs?!
The Pro Kit on my car only dropped it 1" The springs are easy to put on, need a spring compressor for the front. Only need it to take them off the strut, theres enough room to put the strut cap on and the nut after replacing the front spring.

Re: Springs?!
Springs aren't hard to put in...even when using a jack on the ground, but a lift makes it MUCH easier and quicker!!!!! If you stick to a spring that drops it 1" then you won't need new struts for sure. You may want to go ahead and at least get a new set of stock GT strut plates (reusing the stock ones is a crap shoot as to if they're going to be fine or start making popping noises and need to be taken apart and replaced) or upgrade to the slightly more expensive (but better) GT500 strut plates, but shouldn't need the near $300+ set of adjustable plates. Also with the 1" drop, you might not need an adjustable panhard bar. If you do, it's not time consuming or difficult to install. The BMR bar is about $140 and takes maybe 30-45 minutes to install and adjust.
Those FR500s are going to look hellasexy!!!!! A few months ago, I was tempted at getting anthracite or gray FR500s for my new set of tires, but since the lip cleaned up quite nice on the Cobras, I'm keeping them! Plus seeing pics with them on my car brought a tear to my eye Hopefully Thursday night, I'll have pics to post with my new tires on Nate's Stang!!!!!

Re: Springs?!
Just don't go for the same rear tire size as they have...it looks shorter than the front tire and is too narrow for the wheel
